Theory On Bob's Letters To Nilrem With Other Theories Sprinkled In

In the Nesaak tundra, there is a secret discovery that gives you an old item, Nilrem's sealed letter. It entails the truth about Bob, and how he actually died. There are some notable things that can be explained now.

Here is the letter:

Dear Nilrem,

The letter I enclose to you has been sealed with concealment magicks. I trust you to know how to read it.

My war against the creature is futile. Intel has reached me from a trusted source. Our world is far smaller than we could have imagined, our magick feeble in comparison to what I am about to explain.

There are realms beyond our comprehension, powers we can not hope to defeat. Two immense forces are at war, with our plain of existence being the battleground. There is a dark creature of the night in a land "far" away, it poses a threat to all.

I give you this letter as a warning and a farewell, friend. I am going to challenge the beast and attempt to seal it away using my own life force, for I know that is all I can do, killing it is not an option.

You know of the magic I have infused in my animal companions, I trust you to hide them until one worthy is able to wield my might. The world can not know of my sacrifice, no one must search for me. You must fake my death, and create a body for them to bury.

The fight will continue, but at least the new recruits will have a fighting chance for the years to come. I wish you luck, Nilrem, continue to train the forces of good, you are the most skilled man than I have ever known.

Now let's break it down.
''There are realms beyond our comprehension, powers we can not hope to defeat. Two immense forces are at war, with our plane of existence being the battleground.''
Bob is referring to a war between the Light and the Dark. Proof? In the silent expanse, Lutho is built around a light obelisk that is said to have some relation to the light realm. Nearby in void valley, there is another obelisk called the dark obelisk. These two are stated to be in some way linked, and at the top of the light obelisk is a chipped piece. This hints that the obelisk itself has been attacked by the darkness in an attempt to stop the Light from having some control over the area. This shows that the Light Realm is relevant to the lore.

''I am going to challenge the beast and attempt to seal it away using my own life force, for I know that is all I can do, killing it is not an option.''
This refers to the powerful Dern beast that the Eye belongs to.

''The fight will continue, but at least the new recruits will have a fighting chance for the years to come. I wish you luck, Nilrem, continue to train the forces of good, you are the most skilled man than I have ever known.''
He is referring to the many waves of Fruman recruits, including Aledar, Tasim, and the player. We have actually yet to meet Nilrem but I predict it will happen soon. Maybe he's the grand magus?

This is referring to the Corrupted Artefact obtained in Reincarnation

The most important part is the one that refers to the war between Light and Dark. It seems their portals are on opposite sides of the world from each other, one being in Wynn and the other in Gavel. The Hive has a slightly dark appearance, and may be the source of the Decay as well as the greed of villagers. It would also explain why Quira refused to stop the Decay.

I have some extra theories though.

This one relates to the EO lore on the wiki

Eldritch Outlook — On the edge of the deepest reaches of the Expanse stands the Eldritch Outlook, its construction colourful and bizarre and its pinnacle towering above any other structure in the known world. Like most details about it, including the engine of its non-euclidean halls, its origin is unknown to all. One fact is known, however: from the pinnacle watches an all-seeing monster of Dern like no other, surveying all of Wynn and the lands beyond. And if one wishes to end their journey and find whatever may lie on the other side, they must conquer not only the Eldritch Outlook, but the beast atop its summit.

Note the part where it says end their journey. This is referring to AHC according to the wiki. A hunter's calling is like the big finale quest, so is it the end of our adventure?

No.

You see, I have a theory. One that explains why there will likely still be more to come that is harder than A hunter's calling. Things that will be the TRUE finale. I believe that AHC is actually the end of our adventures in the overworld. After Fruma is added, Dern will be chapter 2 of our adventure. I think it'll be a whole new world to explore, and then we may see the true end. Of course, Dern will take years to be complete, and will start simple just like the overworld. But one day we may see Dern as a new world, and the Light realm may be expanded to be the same size (if we're lucky)

We don't know if this WILL happen or not, but we can hope so because more wynncraft content is always good

 

I thought we didn’t know what the item of power was or what the context or significance of it was. If the Corrupted Artifact was the item of power Bob was referring to, how did he have it and give it to the player when supposedly he gave it Nilrem long ago?

Idk what’s the real point behind this thread since there hasn’t been any substantial new information since Bob’s sealed letters were first released years ago.

 

Bob didn't give you the artefact. He gave you the seal of approval which you exchange for the artefact.

 

Oh yeah, right. Though I thought the seal of approval was for getting Bob's original weapons, not a single artifact of power.

 

i think Portal to Dern will be unlocked in quest about dern by "I have enclosed the item of power you were seeking." - this item. It will be a spell, which crushes a dimensional barrier, which allows you to enter the Realm of Dern.

 

Actually now that I think about it, the ''item of power'' might be bob's transforming weapon. Nilrem may have sealed EO with it and placed it in the sacrifice altar. If you look at the weapon you kill Aledar with it looks quite a lot like the one Bob uses in the Wynn plains ultimate discovery and if you try to get the sword back afterwards the game will just tell you that it won't budge.

 

This is not the Corrupted Artifact. These are the Relic Items that used to exist as part of the Relic Set: there were locations with puzzles all over Wynn which gave you pieces of armor and sometimes, the Sealed Letters dropped aswell. When the Relics were removed, the letters were instead dropped by the Secret Discovery.

No. The source of the Decay is the Caritat Mansion, as the quest "Memory Paranoia" says. The Caritats built their mansion atop the source of the Decay in order to prove that the forest and its inhabitants were still good. Of course, this didn't work out very well, hence the entire family murdered eachother at one point because their minds had been corrupted by the Decay.

Also, Qira refused to stop the Decay because she'd rather spend her time cooped up in the Hive, creating an army for something that is to happen in the future (perhaps she'd fight the forces of Dern with her army? who knows).

As for the Relics, I knew those existed but seeing as they didn't add much to the lore and were removed, there is probably a better explaination lorewise now

 

A lot of Bob’s lore and Wynn’s lore is incomplete rn so irk how much you can really go off on that hasn’t been done already.

 

Just noticed another thing so I will pick it apart

In Memory Paranoia, Mr Caritat has a string of dialogue when he is corrupted, which is interesting...

• Mr. Caritat: HE WHO STARTED THE WAR SHALL RISE ONCE MORE. FROM THE REALM OF SHADOWS, DECEIT AND PAIN.
• Mr. Caritat: FOREVER TRAPPED, FROM WHENCE HE CAME. THROUGH THE WEAK POINT BETWEEN REALMS HE. WILL. RISE. AGAIN.
• Mr. Caritat: FROM THE SOILS OF DOOM THE SERVANT LAID
• Mr. Caritat: BREAK THROUGH THE REALMS TO THE LAND OF TRADE.
• Mr. Caritat: CORRUPT THE WORLD WITH SEEDS OF PAIN
• Mr. Caritat: SO THAT HE...
• Mr. Caritat: ...MAY RISE AGAIN!

So what is he talking about?

The war he mentions is likely referring to the war between the Light and the Dark ( TLR vs Dern)
The realm of shadows he mentions is likely Dern
When he says that he is trapped and will rise, he is either talking about Naragath or The Dern Beast
The servant part is confusing, but I have a few theories:
Bak'al
His very own servants
Naragath (if the dern beast is who he refers to)
The land of trade is the overworld, and maybe gavel because of the greed of Villagers. In fact, he may be saying that The Dern Beast will escape Dern by the greed of the gavelians
The seeds of pain are likely referring to the fact that the corruption grows like a plant. Maybe if the entire world is corrupted then he will escape?
But how was the dern beast trapped? He literally says ''rise again'' so if this IS the dern beast, he once roamed earth. Maybe Orphion defeated him and sealed him into Dern?

One more thing I noticed is that in Bob's letters he says:

The Taproot says:

Greetings, young mortal. There are realms, adventurer. Realms beyond your comprehension. Linked to your world in ways you cannot hope to understand. This land. The land you call home. It is our battleground… It's history is long and complex. We, the bringers of light seek to create a land of light and happiness.

They both say similar things, like ''Realms beyond comprehension'' ''Cannot hope to'' ''This realm is a battleground''

I have 3 theories:
Bob went to the Taproot
Bob IS the Taproot
They both speak the same way and had the same things to say

Naragath is most likely not related to dern in any way, shape or form. It is a demon the cultists started to summon after the decay came to gavel. It is not the dern beast,

Mr. Caritat was talking about ‘breaking in to the land of trade’, not escape using the greed of villagers. The dern beast is trying to reach to the land of the trade by breaking through the realms.

About the dern beast, I think bob succeded in ‘sealing it away with is own life force’ and that might be he reason it is locked in dern.

 

Never said Naragath was the dern beast, i just said that it's possible for him to be from Dern.

Anyways, this is a pretty cool thread, and even though I have some critisizm, I agree with the rest of it. The dern beast seems to be related to many things, and I really hope dern will not be rushed(*cough* gavel *cough*).

My theory is that the "Corrupted Artifact" or the "Relic" items are not the real artifacts and are only a distraction, and the real artifact is sealed somewhere else, because if it fell into the wrong hands it could be catastrophic.

We also see a chest in the quest "Royal Trials" which even the pirate queen describes as a "cataclysm-in-a-box". However it is not sealed away, it is instead protected in a mansion, so they probably aren't related.

 

hey samsam. I think you're taking "there are realms beyond our comprehension" too lightly. nagarath and garaheth are probably not from dern at all. they're probably from other planes of existence entirely. dern is tied to wynn, so is the RoL. darkness and light. but we can assume nagarath and garaheth have nothing to do with it. we know nothing of wynn lore other than the actual things the player WOULD be able to comprehend. we shouldn't get into nagarath and garaheth imo

In Gateway Island, during Fantastic Voyage, by the tent there is an Unfinished Letter that just says "Dear Nilrem.."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Bob went to Dern via Gateway Island

 

I feel like there's a little detail we might be overlooking, one that might or might not be important.
They're sealed letters. They haven't been opened yet. If they were, the seal would be broken and the envelope thrown away. Did Nilrem ever actually receive these letters? And the enclosed item, for that matter?
