Any Good Lvl 40 Mage Builds?

I am currently using a weapon focused on lightning damage, and I have zero idea if that is the best type of damage for mage. Can someone tell me which is, and what armor I should use?

 

I really wouldn't worry about builds until lvl 100+, at lvl 40 just use whatever equipment you find

But tell me what weapon you're using and I could try to make something

I would always recommend using above curve morph set + whatever you could find (for me it was water gear).
I prefer to use spell spammy stuff for mage, so mana regen/spell dmg/intelligence and health is good for that and carried me through the game quite easily.

I still use full morph set on all of my level 106 characters because it is extremely easy to understand and follow, quite cheap (2 LE or less if you just go looking for the armor pieces at level), decently tanky with ele resists, has enough stats to use pretty much any non-mythic weapon i want without needing to respec points, and can do 95% of content in the game solo and punch well in its weight class when in a party. Also has nice loot bonus and exp bonus while leveling. Mage heal makes it even better.



I used for level 40 spell focus mage:
Stats to Avoid:
Negative life steal/life regen, negative mana regen/mana steal
No need for attack damage/attack speed

Good stats (in no particular order):
Mana regen
Intelligence
Health
Spell dmg

Nice to have, not important at all
Walkspeed
Health regen
Positive ele resists

Build:
Helm: Whatever helmet was good (mana regen/spell dmg/intelligence, health)
Chest: Whatever chest was good
Leg: Whatever legs were good
Boot: Morph Gold
Ring: Morph topaz
Ring: Morph topaz (they count separately, which is why it's pretty decent)
Brace: Morph Ame
Amulet: Anything for your amulet that you want

 

well I'm currently using Detlas' Legacy, but I am switching to Glare once I can afford to put powders on it

ty, one more questions (and this might be stupid)
does neutral attack damage count towards your damage as a mage?
like armor that buffs your neutral attack damage, does that do anything?

 

Bonus to main attack damage should not buff your spells.
Bonus to spell neutral damage does improve your spell dmg, and so does bonus ele damage if your spell does than specific elemental damage.

All damage (neutral/ele) that occurs on your weapon will contribute to spell damage, and I think the attack speed also factors into the potency (because super fast weapons have low damage/hit and super slow weapons have high damage/hit, so it gets equalized so that the super fast weapon and super slow weapon will have more similar spell dmg numbers instead of a drastically low or high dmg spell from what I have heard).

oh no, I see someone recommending 4/8 morph again...

The reason I don't recommend morph is because it basically sucks up your skillpoints, especially at lower levels. You have plenty of options near your level for gear, like Avalanche (which is a helmet from the quest Fate of the Fallen) at 43, etc.


Having to assign in all stats leads to a lot of "wasted" points where you could just not use morph. In my opinion, morph only really gets good at 7/8 with blue mask and then third eye. It falls off at full set because at 100+, you can get better builds for even less than 1le.




Overall recommendations to get asap seeing you're lv44:

Avalanche (lv43, helmet, Fate of the Fallen reward)
Any chestplate really, snow tunic (lv44, chestplate, drop/market)works.
Kaas' Fur (lv40, leggings, drop/market) or Holy Greaves (lv40, leggings, drop/market)
snow boots (lv41, boots, drop/market) or adigard's snowshoes (lv30, boots, drop/market)

For wand, take a look at Haqherphix (lv42, wand, drop/market) which is absurdly powerful.
accessories... just use xp/int/mana/spell accessories, don't use rainbow reqs like morph... yeah.


I'd also hold off on doing profs until 100+ combat, but your choice.

ill redistribute them correctly, and get all of the items you recommended.
