While you may be right that the ToA crystal comes from space (it sickens you, and was probably why "Death" went on a rampage, corrupting his mind like a meteorite can corrupt people's minds, as shown with Yahya, the Star Thief, Nohno and Mehme), why are there strange, corruption spike-like formations around the tower all over the canyon? Why are there corrupted mobs, something that you don't see in the rest of the tundra? Didn't Theorick already freeze all of the corruption? I think the crystal isn't just cosmic magic, because cosmic artifacts don't seem to corrupt their nearby environment (as we see in Order of the Grook, in ??? and in Star Thief). It contains properties from cosmic magic AND corruption. Thing is, we just don't have much information about the ToA besides the fact that it's a challenge tower. So this may be a question we won't get an answer to for a long time.

That's a good point, and as you said we might not get an answer for a long time.

One idea I have is that the corrupt creatures took shelter in the Icy Descent when Theorick froze Nesaak. The big ice spikes may have formed due to many reasons. The proximity of corrupt creatures? Aftermath of Theorick's magic? Or just naturally?

Another possibility is that as the theory goes, all purple crystals transform the enviorement, so maybe the ToA crystal just turns the area into like that? Maybe it fights Theorick's ice magic with cosmic magic, causing the corruption that was once there to spread again? In Beneath the Roots, we see how the Roots are practically everywhere, so there may be some under the ToA area.

Very good point. I think that the most reasonable explanation is that, as @Emogla3 says, that the crystal is fighting the ice magic, causing the spread of spikes to speed up. Remember as well that ice magic doesn't actually stop corruption - it just slows it down. There's also the possibility they're natural.
