honestly I believe every community with some amount of americans should share this around, it's worth it to spread the message to even a few more ppl.

 

BLM never meant to imply that black lives should be the only ones that matter: it’s not Black Lives Matter More. It’s simply the response to the fact that black lives seem to matter far less than others.

 

All lives don't matter until black lives matter.

 

I get where you're coming from.
But that sentence is fucked up.

 

It's true though? When black lives are oppressed by systematic racism, it means that not all lives matter. For all lives to matter you need black lives to matter first. I really don't want to delve into a full-blown argument but the statement of "all lives matter" is inherently a statement to go against black lives matter, due to misunderstanding of how black lives matter even works.
Let's take an example for why all lives matter is pretty dumb. If 1 house was burning, and those people inside the houses cried out for help, that would be the house that needs the most help right now. The firemen wouldn't say that all houses mattered and had to check with every single other house equally instead of immediantly helping the house that is burning. The burning house represents black lives. Black lives require the most help right now, and that is why black lives matter exists, not to prove black superiority over other races, but equal it out for everybody.
I don't get the sentiment in how my sentence is fucked up.

 

The semantics of the phrase really shouldn't be the point of conversation here

 

I'm assuming you mean that all lives physically cannot matter until black lives matter as they are part of that same group, and I definitely agree- however I think "can't" or something would be a better word than "don't" here, as it could be interpreted that you're saying nobody's lives should matter besides black people's, which I hope you're not saying as that's completely not true, think about all the other peoples being opressed and targeted around the world- they exist, and should matter too. (I believe this is what Yuno was referring to)

 

I’m not responding to your message specifically, just to something that this thread is mentioning a lot, and you refer to a lot of perspectives brought up throughout this conversation.

Unfortunately, labeling the name/organization Black Lives Matter as “bad because it ignores the problems of others” is an argument that has been co-opted by white supremacists and others in order to try and shut down BLM or to set aside the real arguments in favor of semantics.

Because of this, those arguments can often be seen as racist/supporting white supremacism(yea I know it’s stupid blame 4chan for turning something new into a racist icon weekly). That’s where you get dudes shouting “all lived matter” before aiming a hunting bow into a crowd of protestors(the irony is not lost). We’re just chilling on a Minecraft forum but in some contexts phrases along the lines of “but EVERY life is important” can become incredibly hateful.

And yes, I am painfully aware of the fact that I am criticizing the focus on the semantics of BLM whilst focusing on the semantics of BLM.

 

I'm getting really sick of these. It feels like the qualifications to be a police officer don't include any sort of "won't murder someone for being black" clause. I'm glad that they were at least fired and charges were pressed, which - and I cannot believe I'm saying this - is a huge improvement. The bare minimum. Is an improvement. If you live in the US and are of a legal voting age do what you can to prevent this in the future. You have a direct ability to control your government on every level to force this to change. This can't keep happening, so don't let it.

 

What strikes me about George Floyd's death is that the officer who killed him had 18 separate complaints against him previously filed with internal affairs. One of the other officers at the scene was the subject of six complaints, one of which was still open, and a lawsuit. Even if these police officers were just "bad apples", there's a depressing lack of awareness about and accountability for these kinds of officers within law enforcement, which is a huge issue when the entire point of the justice system is to hold people accountable.

 

Jesus. While I'm glad they at least responded appropriately to this, it would be nice if they actually tried to prevent stuff like this happening in the first place. Hell of a lot of good it does to take action after the fact.

I want to apologize for my first post on this thread (that got deleted) that it could be misinterpreted. I didn't know that the phrase is racist and is used by people against this movement.
I searched some things about it and learned from this mistake and hope I won't make it again.

Can you tell me you have ever seen a white person get targeted by racism? Didn’t think so. With all this stuff going around the world, we need to focus on actual problems.

 

I don't get where your point lies. In terms of police brutality, whites are no way in hell more oppressed than blacks, esp in racially motivated brutalities. This stuff is an actual problem, I don't know what you're implying lol.

My point is, with all this racism against black people, we shouldn’t say stuff like ‘all lives matter’ because racism against white people don’t even exist.

 

Bruh, there is racism against white people, it might be in the shadow of black racism in the US but it exists.
