(spoilers) The Forest Has Eyes Broken??

So I am currently working on getting all my discoveries done without the use of guides, but I seem to have run in to a bit of an issue. I had problems completing it as the eyes in the tree didn't seem to do anything, so I looked at the guide which told me to click the eyes to summon a bridge to keep climbing. Unfortunately this didn't seem to do anything as no bridges spawn and even climbing the tree and getting to all the eyes in order does not open the final portal.

Is this just down for the time being or am I missing something? The guide says that no items are required for the completion but I'm wondering if there is something else I need do.

 

You only need to click them; there are no required items.

 

I've completed this discovery before; I did the following:
-Use movement spells to climb to the topmost eye of the tree at 868, 144, -610 (you don't have to click on any other eyes)
-Trigger the eye
-Look up at the giant eye on the top of the tree; a path will appear leading you there but you have to climb a bit more to reach it
-Follow the path and do a bit of parkour, then enter the eye

 

I tried this but clicking the eye does nothing unfortunately.

Found the solution, the eyes stayed open permanently in 1.10.2.
