Nighthawk Is Still Absolutely Overpowered

While I was assembling my Alka Cometflinger spell build, which I enjoy a lot now, I remembered an item that I had long since neglected. Nighthawk, a fabled armor with a major ID which allows it to fire 5 arrows that do large burst damage instead of a barrage of arrows that do damage over time. So I thought, why not try it out and see if I like it? So I did, went to the Detlas training bots to test my DPS. First I tested my arrow storm damage with Pisces. It was pretty alright. Then I tested with Nighthawk and oh boy was it incredible. Not only did I objectively more damage than when I had pisces on, it was over a lesser period of time. It only takes 1 second for Arrow storm to finish instead of 3 seconds. I was doing about 20k per arrow storm. So lets do the math here. With Nighthawk, I would be doing 20k DPS. With Pisces, I would be doing 20/3 DPS, which is approximately THREE TIMES MORE THAN NORMAL. Effectively tripling the damage of arrow storm. For what, maybe 1000 health decrease? Maybe less mana regen? Maybe less skill points? Forget about it. Once you can put nighthawk you're gonna put nighthawk and you're gonna fucking obliterate literally anything in the game. Now a point can be made that Nighthawk consumes more mana over time due to it having to use Arrow storm more times than normal. And that mana constraint will severely limit some builds. I can understand that. But once you have the intelligence (Both in the game and in real life) and mana regen to supplement Nighthawk, you are set. This sets a significant damage difference for non Nighthawk viable builds and nighthawk viable builds. Even with the mana costs, having massive burst damage for mana costs will still be worth it.

If you don't understand, the problem is that Nighthawk carriers are capable of dealing 3x the DPS of arrow storm. This allows archer weapons to absolutely obliterate everything in the game using Nighthawk. GMA's and Divzer users can spam 80k+ DPS without major drawback and that is a problem.

I know that Nighthawk just got nerfed but it is still incredibly powerful. And it has an easy fix too. The main problem with nighthawk is that it can do the full damage of Arrow Storm in 1 second, which can be spammed. The way to fix it is to extend its duration to 3 seconds. That way, it is still objectively better than normal Arrow storm because you can use it long range, but interchanging it with other helmets will still be just as good of an addition.

 

Yeah, it's common knowledge that the nerf didn't actually do anything.

 

Something like +1 first spell would do wonders, I personally think. It still might be on the good side, but at least less good

 

i feel like Nighthawk is always either going to be severely overpowered like it used to be, or so underpowered to the point of being completely useless if they nerf it again. Just like the Ambassador from TF2, if you make the upside amazing with no real downside, then nerf the upside instead of giving it a bigger downside, the item will just be useless.

 

Isnt the duration the point of Hawkeye? To speed it up?

 

partially point is to condense the stream of arrows, so you don't have to be right in front of the enemy to get maximum arrow storm dps- which is an entirely different problem with nighthawk, that it lets you get maximum arrow storm damage at a far longer range, with none of the close-range risk it used to hold

but yeah, it also allows faster spellcasting

 

iirc, hawkeye was supposed to have the same overall duration as arrow storm, but doesn't

honestly, this would actually make it a meaningful trade-off--sacrificing area for better linear range

 

Actually, I believe you do significantly less damage with nighthawk, however more arrows hit your target. It should really have some downsides, like either making that the only spell you can reasonably cast or making it more expensive to cast. The problem is that they have to design it so it's good on other classes as well.

 

imo just revert it to how it was upon release. Higher damage with glitched three streams. It was pretty fair and balanced ngl.

 

The area effect practically doesn't matter.

 

Just give Nighthawk a class requirement of Mage

as someone who's used Nighthawk before, with a friend who's a serial Nighthawk abuser, cut the arrow storm damage in half.

No we don't. It has an archer only req. It's just that class reqs on non-weapons are broken right now.

I don't recall mythics being able to triple a class's normal damage apart from standout ones. Especially when they're this cheap. I can get a nighthawk for like a penny. It's not that hard now that there are people running around with loot quality sets getting fableds like paychecks.
