Big Red X While Farming?

Hey guys, so I'm just farming my typical wood until earlier I farmed this one tree and it didn't give me an item. Instead, it just had a floating X as if it was telling me that I could not pick up the item. Would anyone happen to know what that red X might mean while I'm farming?

 

Whenever you gather a resource, you're not guaranteed a material from it; there is a chance where this fails and you get this red X. It'll show up more and more often as your tool durability drops until your tool durability hits zero and you can't get more materials anymore without repairing your tool or getting a new one.

 

It means that the resource failed to refine. Every material has a chance to do this, and higher level resources have a lower refining chance. In addition, check the durability of your axe. It might be at 0, especially if this continues
