Woodcutting With Axe Does Not Yield Wood Or Paper?

    So I am having an issue, the title basically sums it up.
    I am trying to get resources with the gathering axe, but am unable to do so.
    I can cut down the trees just fine and earn experience, but no resources are granted.
    Am I doing something wrong or... Is this a bug?

    Check your durability; to repair it, you have to go to a blacksmith and use scrap.
