SPOILER I Feel Like Witch Doctor Is Near Impossible To Solo With Mage (li)

Is there any tips on how to beat this guy with your mage?

His minions get extremely annoying, they have a lot of health, they move the same speed as your walking speed, there's a shit ton of them, multi hit which is avoidable but still annoying.

Except I don"t think this boss would be a problem if mage's meteor wasn't lock on. It is so hard to hit the Virus Doctor because the meteor targets everything else but the boss. That's honestly my main problem here. If lock on wasn't a thing, I would not be writing this right now.

I think lock on should be removed are at least be able to toggle it on or off. I'm doing a good amount of damage to it, (11-15k meteors) but it's if I can hit him is the problem here.

I'm reaching out for any tips, I can just wait for a friend to hop on or get a big group, but other than that, is there any easier way to do it?

 

You might want to correct the title. The Witch Doctor is the 3rd boss from the Tower of Ascension, however you're refering in your thread to the Virus Doctor from LI.

A possible strategy is to walk around the boss and try to stay ahead of his minions. Keep an eye on his teleport and his "negative knockback" (aka spells that would normally knock back NPCs will pull them instead). If your meteors deal that much damage, he should go down fairly quick. Keep an eye on your health too. Good luck!

 

Ice snake and tp would be a good combo of spells if rats annoy you too much.
I like to take my distance when fighting doctor, ice snake the rats to keep em off my way, and then meteor doctor.
And for the lock on thing, yes it can be very annoying, but after years of playing mage I found a way to control it, what you have to do is if your target is far away, you aim above them, not directly at them, and the meteor will lock onto the far target, regardless if u have mobs infront of you or not.

 

The title says witch doctor but i assume you’re talking about virus doctor.

I don’t think most of the minions are meant to be killed, so focus on the doctor as he is meant to be killed asap before he spawns more minions.

As xKar said, try aiming your meteors slightly above him to hit him.

Also, please link your build. A super low-damage build can have trouble.

Mage's generally will struggle more with Virus Doctor simply because the longer the boss takes, the more difficult it becomes. That can be said with a lot of bosses, but it in particularly is true for Virus Doctor since more time means more minions. Archer's don't struggle because they have bomb arrow, Assassin's can usually just vanish combo it, and Shaman has an orgasm when it creates an orgy with that many mobs in that area. The only really comparable one is Warrior. That being said, you can typically just outheal the damage. I generally just tp into Virus Doctor to meteor him when I use a spell build, since, like you said, meteor is inaccurate due to its weird lock on targeting system. This does leave you open to get hit by his melee or a multi-hit from the minions, but the blind+heal spamming usually compensates for that.
