This Makes Me Insane!

I'm currently grinding for materials to upgrade my armorsmithing level, but I can't mine ores. I'm mining the ore but then it just comes an X and i don't get it, I've stumbled upon this sometimes before but never this many times, how do I get the ore???

 

You probably have a spare pickaxe, meaning it's ''broken''. You can repair it at a blacksmith ( every tool can be repaired not just the pickaxe) with scrap ( by scraping useless items). For instance, you have a T10 pickaxe that has 140/140 durability. When the durability goes to 0/140 you need to repair it with 10 scraps, for lower-tier ones may be much cheaper

 

Either you're holding 2 of the same tool (as in 2 pickaxes, for example holding a pickaxe and an axe is fine) or your tools have run out of durability and can be repaired with scrap at the blacksmith, you can obtain scrap by scrapping useless armor and weapons at the blacksmith.
