The decay is a by-product of the war against the light realm and dern.
Which is the war, light realm vs dern. Not sure what exactly you don't understand, because those weren't questions.
I'm not sure what about the olm you don't understand.
And of course, we don't know about the beast, his in dern, we haven't been there yet.

 

Maybe a bit off topic idk tho, but a quest, I think wynn excavation D, an NPC mentions there's a war between the light realm versus dern and we just so happen to be the battlefield.

 

God, that reminds me like 5-6 years ago first time I explored the House of Twain I had no clue what it was (was lvl 30 or so) so me and a friend just called it Herobrines Mansion cause there was a Herobrine Head easter egg on it.


Anyway, yeah. I dont think Bak’al will necessarily be a MINI boss, but definitely less powerful than the eye (in terms of power to player level, it could have higher stats than the Eye but be easier because of the players increased level), but definitely not the final boss. Tbh I really want a boss fight in the Nether, and if anyone is gonna be in there it should be Bak’al
