why does it change the stats of assassin spells

 

The way the spell reduction costs are coded is simply spell 1, spell 2, etc. So, while it lists the Assassin spells when you view it as an Assassin, it will say the Shaman spells when viewing it as a Shaman. Thus, it increases the cost to use totem while lowering everything else, since totem and spin attack are both classes respective first spell.

 

That's actually pretty genius. But isn't it broken because you could just have an alt weapon that casts totem for practically nothing, then use loser for the rest of the time?

 

No. As a Shaman, if you stop holding your weapon in hand that placed the totem, the totem will disappear and have to be reset. It's a little buggy in that the aura spell will keep going regardless of whether or not the totem is there if you cast it prior to disappearing, but other than that you can't really abuse secondaries to negate the totem cost.
