No, I'm not insane. if you read nilrem's sealed letter you will learn that Bob may still be alive. (I don't know if there is additional lore to this involving the silent expanse) but the letter says that Nilrem should fake Bob's death so bob can save Wynn. Is this true? Discuss.

 

Bob faked his actual death so no one would try to take down what he tried to take down, which is assumed to be the Eye. His death is confirmed when you do the quest Bob's Lost Soul and Reincarnation, as well as another secret discovery in Nesaak.

 

I assume it was the creator of the eye, who Bak'al serves.

Have you done the new Nesaak discoveries? We learn in one that Bob faked his death and that the body we see in Bob's lost soul is a fake. It's near the great bridge.

 

The new Nesaak discovery is meant to replace the old Relics, small shrines that housed either powders, weapons or armor, and some of those dropped a set of letters which had this exact info, so this is really not new news

[SPOILERS] In the Silent Expanse Master Discovery, we see some sort of beast and Bak'al talking to it, the beast then claws out it's eye and orders Bak'al to place it at some sort of tower (the Eldritch Outlook is this tower, as the boss is named "The Eye", and is well, a large, humanoid eye)
