Dernic Materials Are Basically Useless

    Hey, I am one of those dudes that does professions way too much!
    Today I decided to test out what the durability difference is between level 100-103 crafting with level 100 materials and level 103-105 crafting with the shiny new dernic materials,
    and as you can judge from the title of this thread, it is not good.

    So instead of wasting your time, I will get right to the point now:
    With the 75% durability increase, crafting with tier 1 level 100 materials at level 100-103 crafting would give you a piece of equipment with 522-525 base durability and (3250 to 3300 health in this case).

    I only crafted 2 pieces with t1 dernic materials so far and these were the results (also hooray these are probably the first ever dernic-crafted items on the main server I guess):

    As you can see, these only have 525 and 526 durability, being only 1-2 higher than you could normally get with level 100-103 crafting with tier 1 materials and they only give 30 more health.
    Judging from the fact that these are only level 104 and not 105, its safe to assume the durability range of tier 1 level 103-105 crafting with dernic materials is 525-530~ish

    Now lets look at current crafting steps ingame (all with tier 1 materials):
    level 90-93: 487-497 Durability
    level 93-95: 497-504 Durability
    level 95-97: 504-511 Durability
    level 97-99: 511-518 Durability
    level 100-103: 522-525 Durability
    As you can see, each step gives about 6-7 more durability than the last, which aligns pretty well with our estimates, in other words:
    Dernic crafting is only as good as a single step up in crafting, despite requiring level 110 gathering, making it so much harder to require than level 100 materials, making it completely not worth using for crafting good pieces of equipment, the only real reason I ever see this being used is by high leveled gatherers who just want to level up crafting or because players got forced to use dernic materials because the new high level ingredients forced them to.

    So what will happen if this stays the same?
    Simple, now gathering is much easier to level in general due to hunted mode, the general exp boost and mini-quests, the market price of level 100 materials will likely drop quite a bit, making gathering a terrible option for earning money (especially compared to lootrunning and how it basically got buffed even more in 1.19).

    Everyone assumed that the addition of dernic materials would fix this issue and make gathering still a decent option for earning a good income, but looking at how low the durability increase dernic materials offer is, I doubt anyone would often want to buy dernic materials, thus making gathering only more worthless compared to 1.18 because level 100 materials are easier to get now and again, no one probably wants to buy dernic stuff.

    So how can we fix it?
    In my opinion either one of the following should be done:
    1. Remove dernic materials from level 105 crafting and just let players use the normal level 100 stuff for level 103-105+ crafting (like how it normally would work).
    However this means that dernic materials themselves should be removed too (otherwise they would be completely useless) unless they could be used for other things, maybe they should sell well at a blacksmith? maybe turn them into ingredients? I don't know, these are merely suggestions though.

    2. The simplest option (and in my opinion the best option): increase the durability (and other stats like health and damage if you craft armor/weapons) level 103-105 dernic material crafting gives,
    I suggest to increase them by at least a 15-20 durability to make them worth using, and thus stabilize the gathering market.


    TL;DR Dernic materials only give a tiny increase in durability and other stats (the same amount as just a normal crafting step up) while being much, much harder to get, making them basically not worth it at all in a lot of cases.

    Definitely this 100%. Also don't forget about increasing their damage/hp as well, though increasing these might cause them to be too op. Perhaps just double these increases from +20 hp (since the difference between dernic mats and lv 100 mats is about this much so far) to +40 or something like that?

    I mean, the biggest reason to use Dernic gear is because otherwise you have no way to use level 104 or 105 ingredients...

    I crafted a bunch of bows and can further confirm the marginal increases in using Dernic materials. Here it is:

    T1:
    • Durability: 525-526
    • Damage:
      • 10 bows with slow attack speed: 469-574 to 473-578
      • 9 bows with normal attack speed: 343-420 to 345-422
      • 6 bows with fast attack speed: 281-344 to 283-346
    T2:
    • Bow #1:
      • Durability: 657
      • Slow Attack Speed
      • 585-716
    • Bow #2:
      • Durability: 658
      • Normal Attack Speed
      • 432-528
    Side note: I did notice the increase in selling these bows to the IB of around +25%.

    Their main use, like LV100's main use was before this update, is the ability to craft with ingredients that have a higher level requirement. That's how it was with LV100 mats prior to this update and people were free to use lower level materials if they could. Some recipes enjoy the extra durability as well.
