Hey guys! I'm nicktree, creator of the quest A Journey Further and the wall jumping mechanic seen in the quest. (This mechanic is also used in the undergrowth ruins and corrupted undergrowth ruins dungeons made by @Jbip ) Anyway, some people seem to be having trouble with the wall jumping mechanic so I thought I could make a little guide informing people how to Wall Jump like a PRO! This is an interesting new take on parkour that might get more to it in the long run. Lets begin with the basics. I'll be using screenshots from AJF for my examples

    180° Jumps
The most optimal way to wall jump (don't quote me on this) is to turn your head in 1st person mode to face the other wall. This lets you see where the next jump is if you're doing jumps that require you to go to certain spots on the wall to progress.

A situation in where 180° jumps are important

    Moving Mid-Air
In Minecraft, moving in mid-air is somewhat difficult. Mid air movements is sometimes required for some wall jumps. Speed boosts like archer escape spell speed or other forms of walk speed can help but after a certain point of speed boost, they no longer help. sprinting can also help with mid-air navigation.

This would be a situation where mid-air moving is required

    Slime Sploders
Slime Sploders are an obstacle seen in the 2 final wall jump challenges in AJF. Something similar to these can also be found in CUR (and maybe UR). Slime Sploders don't move but are equipped with an explosion spell that knocks the player back. Many people have trouble finding out how to deal with these guys, but I have found a couple ways to counter them.

    Speed Run:
If you are able to, one way to avoid getting knocked off is to immediately do the slime parkour and don't give the Slime Sploders time to charge their spell up. Of course, this might be very difficult to do so its only for the big boys. B)

    Use Them to your Advantage:
If you time it right you can be able to use the slime sploders to boost you upwards. In order to do this you must be above the slime sploder and close to them. This one is probably to most difficult to do but it can help you greatly.

    Kill Them:
Of course, the most simple way to deal with slime sploders is to kill them, all classes should be able to kill the slime sploders with the use of a ranged attack or spell. Do be aware though, they respawn.

    Knock Them Down:
Another simple way to deal with slime sploders are to knock them down from where they are. This can prevent them from respawning and being a problem. Sadly, certain classes have an easier time of doing this than others.

Slime Sploders are placed on ledges and can knock you down with an explosion spell

    Landing
Nearing the end of your climb, you should see a ledge of slime blocks to catch you. If you don't feel like you're going to make it, do not worry! There is an invisible region the peaks off of the ledge that bounces you up (kinda like you're pulling yourself up).

    2019-12-08_18.19.32.png
Remember, you pull yourself up if you are at the edge of the landing

    Falling onto Wall Jump Areas
while you are doing the second or fourth wall jump challenges in AJF. It is a possibility that you find yourself no where near another wall jump platform and instead you end up in between 2 jumps (1 below 1 above). Or you could find yourself jumping too high and being above the wall jump area you wanted to be at. Instead of panicking or trying to go back, just stay still and fall down onto the platform below. This may seem obvious but some people could end up struggling with this.

    Advanced Tips

    Using Spells to Help

Using spells to help you is a big risk while wall jumping due to the fact that it uses mana, in order for sprinting to work, the player will have trouble sprinting with very low mana. However, if you are really in need, then using spells can be really helpful. It really depends on which class you are using and how to use each spell.

    Archer:
Archers will have a hard time trying to use escape spell while in the air but the speed you get from escape is a great help while wall jumping. Like I say earlier, speed can help the player move in mid-air.

    Mage:
Mages are sometimes able to teleport to a wall jump area if they feel they aren't going to make it. This can come in handy sometimes, but it is hard to control.

    Warrior:
Warriors are able to use charge to do wall jumps differently. Some may consider this way easier but it is definitely harder to control.

    Assassin:
Assassins can use the speed from vanish as well as the forward momentum to help them. Relying on this is difficult though so only use when necessary.

    Shaman:
I do not recommend using Haul to help with wall jumps. However, if you are in desperate need them quickly cast your totem spell above you and quickly use Haul short after. This should give you extra height but it is very difficult to time this correctly and the Haul spell count end up sending you down if you are too late to cast it.

    Sprint
This tip would mainly be used in CUR or even UR since the AJF wall jumps are shorter. Since sprint can be very useful while wall jumping, it is important to save it and know when to use it. Sprinting is mainly used to try and navigate while in mid air quickly. You must make the judgement of when you should use your sprint while jumping. Use too much and you'll end up not being able to sprint where you need to. Use too little and you can end up making misjudgments on when you should sprint. Remember to be on full sprint before beginning a long wall jump challenge.

This concludes my wall jump challenge guide. I tried explaining things as best as I can. Give feedback on what you think of the wall jumping mechanic! Do you want to see it in the future? Should it change? Etc. :D

If you're playing any sort of spell Shaman you can probably Haul-fly to the top.

True, although it is difficult to do in my experience, it is probably easier to do for others though.
