Welcome back! Last week's thread can be found here.

This week's thread won't go too in-depth into any particular Wynn history. Instead, I'll talk about another old easter egg, one that raised quite a few questions back then but were eventually purged and the discussion of the subject ceased soon after.

In 2014, there was an easter egg in the Nemract Cathedral that provided clues alluding to another easter egg found in the Ternaves Bovemist church. Those who managed to open the iron door were greeted with a single wither skull in an item frame, named "The".

It didn't take too long to figure out the rest of the Bovemist churches in the world were connected to this mystery, and in Selchar, Dead Island, and the others, players found the remaining five wither skulls that when pieced together, formed the phrase:

The Lord Got Lost In Memories.

The trail went cold after, and it was soon revealed that this was simply a neat little easter egg that gave the churches a role, and nothing else. But that didn't stop players from theorizing, though. Some named the splinter group inside the Bovemists as "Witherists" who were responsible for the skulls, some speculated that the Bovemists had a more malicious purpose instead of just worshipping cows, and some even saw this as a connection to Dern.

Eventually, the skulls were removed during the great easter egg purge. Its legacy was short-lived and the phrase did not leave a long-lasting impression on the players, but the mystery surrounding it is what makes it an interesting topic to discuss. Who was the "Lord"? Why did certain members of Bovemism worship this "Lord"? And how was the "Lord" forgotten when it was, ironically, supposed to live on in memories?

I'll leave you to make what's out of this.

I thought it was supposed to be a reference to Peppered, the antagonist in the ye old days of Crafted Movies. Because the Bovemists worship cows (which Salted is one) and Salted's counterpart is Peppered, the Witherist's counter idol to worship would be Peppered. And it would also make sense since Crafted Movie is now long gone, and with it Peppered.

I haven't played it yet obviously, but I'm hoping (and expecting) a Peppered Easter egg in the Misadventure on the Sea quest. No spoilers if there is one please.

The lord could be Salted, notice how Drale treats cows (or other bovines) like people, and they seemingly listen to him. In the end, this could be implying that cows are intelligent. Salted realized this, and thus saw cows as sacred, and might have transformed himself into one (or some sort of hybrid), and the religion spread vastly, but the thing is, how many non-believers are there? While religious importance does exist in some areas, but most of the time it's shunned. Big cities like Detlas and Ragni lack any religious buildings, which would explain why cow slaughter is common in some areas. Now why the lord would be lost in memory, I'm not sure of.

Reading this, I was hoping it would take a step forward into the kind of ‘expanded’ mystery and also expose my favorite Easter Egg, which I believe is still in the game, but it didn’t. Still cool though, I remember theorizing about this to no end, though it didn’t make sense if it was Peppered, considering where Peppered is buried

Ah yes, the good old times of just making easter eggs with no repercussions.
I don't really know why I decided to start making that easter egg series, it was probably just the rising amount of bovemist secrets and the ability to have a wither as a pet. It definitely wasn't about Peppered, back in the day it seemed like there was Bovemism, worship of the Cow and Anti-Bovemism, with Peppered as its symbol. The whole Witherists thing was opposed to both of those, like a dark cult following the wither.
But since neither Bovemism or Anti-Bovemism has really been integrated in any meaningful way and remain just a gimmick there wasn't really a reason to work out the whole witherists thing further.
I still haven't forgotten about them (my guild is still called TheWitherists after all) and if I ever need a mysterious cult they might return.
Shoutouts to Tanti who definitely sunk too much time into those easter eggs.
