What Is The Point Of The Nether?

I definitely agree wynncraft should scrap their current lore but I don't think just having the forces of a good and evil are a good way to drive a story

 

I mean... in Wynn we have the COW, we have like 8 different evil people from dungeons and there's just a lot of random bad dudes. The biggest problem is that there are way too many quests because for some reason almost every quest needs to have a different evil person doing bad stuff. When I say overarching evil I mean one singular evil being like death who controls an army where bosses are the generals. Corkus's lore is actually good compared to the rest because it's simple and interesting. Basically I think the rest of Wynn needs to have Corkus styled lore.

I completely agree, but the idea is that there needs to be clear factions. For just the Provence of Wynn I think a simple good and evil works well since the entire point is that you're fighting corruption, but as the world expands to Gavel I would want to see the main factions and characters get a little more gray area.

 

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that. That is one of, if not the most confusing thing about the lore (especially since it’s about the most important character too...). It’s like in his afterlife... or something? Even though we never find out how he really died... Are the sealed letters still canon?

That’s another thing too; they have the afterlife as a meta joke of how mobs and players respawn, yet they have Bob in a sort of heaven and where he just fights you... Like is there a God or something then? I know there’s Garaleth and all, but still.

I agree. It would be a lot more logical to have a storyline of Wynn quests centered around fighting Bak’al’s hordes or some other undead or corrupted leader like Charon. Then it leads up to the player discovering the corruption’s weakness and taking the fight to the Nether and defeating the Dark Master or some other ultimate evil.

You guys obviously aren't familiar with the lore, because well.
So you know that eye thing? Yeah that's the big baddy. Every smaller evil or major issue is caused by it (other then corkus) both the decey and the currption are caused by it, nearly every bit of lore is tied back to it in some way, and the game has been slowly building up to it until now.

I'm not going to say the writing of individual segments of lore are great, but the game does have something its going for. Its lore does have a big over arching bad guy, and a theme with it.

 

That's what I'm saying; we have an overarching evil and good for each province (Decay and Corruption), and those evils are all tied to the eye, but the problem is the province-level evils don't actually stay in their provinces, and are never clearly explained other than "blame the Darkness". There is no meaningful difference between the decay and corruption, and the corruption can straight up be found in Gavel, but for some reason they don't treat them as the same thing in the lore. There's also things that are inconsistent in the lore itself, like the Corruption being a result of the battle between light and darkness, but ALSO an agent of the darkness at the same time.

And then there's things like Bigfoot, and the lore around the Desert which just feels like a detour and doesn't tie into the corruption at all, and a bunch of side quests and stuff that just add things without context or further elaboration, such as the random fountains of youth or the evil crystal from that one Dernal Forest quest that gets crushed up into powder before you give it to the elves to snort or something.

 

I always liked the idea that the darkness and the corruption were separate issues, and that the darkness and the light fighting caused the corruption. I would love to see the Nether be relevant in the lore again, and not just a cheap source of enemies.

 

There used to be a quest in the nether but they removed it when it became a pvp arena

 

I always thought the nether would be better as a pvp arena, but now I don’t really care anymore.
It might be pretty interesting to make it a Pve arena like how some players suggest in the past.

 

Yes. Also, if all the dungeon bosses are just people corrupted by darkness, what the hell are the corrupted dungeons? Are they just more corrupt? Is there a mirror dimension on the other side of the portal where everything is hell? The lore only says it's a gateway but doesn't really specifically describe where it's a gateway to.

Also yes, there are too many side quests that mess up the lore. That being said, they have been replacing bad quests with good ones recently, so I am a little hopeful that we may one day have clear and consistent lore.

 

Oh, do you remember anything about it? Wasn't there also an armor merchant there too?

Maybe it could've been an endgame dungeon too? Idk, adding another dungeon wouldn't make much sense since there's already so many of them and now we have the Eldritch Outlook. Which is a good thing of course, and I loved the Eye boss fight, but it just doesn't leave room for the Nether anymore :/

pretty sure that there has been little to no mention of the eye in any of the issues that happened in Gavel, as well as a majority of the issues in Wynn. The Eye may be a big baddy but it is not the big baddy. The Eye played a role in wynnexcavation and maybe, maybe had a hand in spreading corruption in Wynn (not causing it, mind you) but other than those and watching over the silent expanse the eye hasn’t done jack shit. Maybe they will expand upon the lore in the future and further flesh out the eye’s role, but as of now the eye is more or less just another generic bad guy to kill at the end of a quest or two.

 

I think it was later reworked into the quest that asks you to go to the shack near the portal

Not to mention that the beast behind the Eye (or the Dark Master) resides in Dern, not the Nether so for all we know there could be some other Satan residing in the Nether. Which further muddles the story since I thought the Dark Master was supposed to be the one and only ultimate evil of Wynncraft.

Lord of the Clock never took the player into the Nether, only into a tower which was near the portal. I think you were originally talking about Temple of the Legends.

That's not true, name a quest with some amount of lore in it and it probably ties back to the eye, if not directly then indirectly.
The whole point in cosmic horror is no one is supposed to know about it, its suppose to kill off everyone indirectly just for existing.
Any quest that has anything to do with time valley, has to do with him. Any quest that has to do with Bob, involves him. For fucks sake the curroption and the decey are both caused by him. This world would have bearly any issues if it wasn't for him.

Have you ever seen a quest mention war of realms? How many? Because everyone that ever mentions the war of realms is at least half about hi

some competitive wynncraft pvp gamemode would be pretty cool.

but not an unbalanced ffa that doesnt reward you bruh
