The Dern Obelisk (share Your Theories)

Most of you people probably watched the reveal trailer for Dern/The Silent Expanse, and this may have caught your attention:

Now I know a lot of you probably just translated this the moment you saw it, which makes sense, but the translation probably confused you, "Free".

Why would it be "Free"? Looking at the state of the dimension, nothing really seems "Free" at all, unless this obelisk was made by a madman, but also notice how the obelisk is white, unlike the black stone the dimension is composed of, so here are some ideas of what the obelisk is:

-It could be made of the eyes on the tress, this is probably less likely, as it wouldn't make much sense.

-This could possibly be the only part of Dern/The Silent Expanse that isn't corrupted, suggesting this obelisk is made out of some sort of un-corruptable material.

Also notice how the obelisk's inside is green? And that there's a portion of Dern that's also green? Now the obelisk doesn't look like it was built by the Ancients, as the architecture is quite different from the surroundings, and the material looks like it was exported from a different dimension or location.

The only thing we've really seen of a green realm is the dimension Slykaar mentioned, which he said is inhabited by a "dark god" of some sort, and putting in mind he used this dimension to turn the dead into abominations, and from one of the creatures we saw in the trailer, this seems fairly true.

But the biggest piece of evidence? In the quest Corrupted Betrayal, you go into Slykaar's old lab and find a bunch of vials of DNA of various creatures found in the jungle, but one of them is different:

"You try to read the label, but it strains your eyes just looking at it. All you can make out is "Vial of De̢͏r҉n̷̡i̡͏̧͏͢c̕̕ ̶͝͏̡͡Ę̵̷͝s̶͟͜s̶͜ę̴͜ņ̶̛c̨͘e͢"..." Dernic Essence, now this could be referencing the Dernic Jungle, it could also be referencing Dern, Slykaar might've used the essence to reverse-engineer it, and then using the dimension and the mysterious god he mentioned, he made the obelisk, infused with the essence, and somehow managed to place it in Dern.

 

I think the obelisk is a kind of trophy, made by the Eye or whatever corrupted the Expanse. They're celebrating that they're finally free, no longer being fought by the citizens of the area, free to create and destroy the Expanse however they want.

 

But from what was seen in the WynnExcavation Site D, they looked like they were escaping from it, I mean, the crystal could possibly have been some sort of super-weapon against them, but it just made them insane, meaning it never fulfilled its purpose, so they really did no harm to them, also from what the 1.19 page says that the Silent Expanse is a part of Wynn overtaken by Dern, so I guess the land never really belonged to the Eye.

 

Dernic is a demonym for Dern, not Dernel Jungle so it's definitely not referencing to the jungle. Anyway, what you said might be true. We are getting the new shaman class in 1.19 which is clearly tied to Slykaar as he is also a shaman, and it might not be a coincidence that the class will be released in a Dern-themed update. Would be cool to see all these things tie together.

 

It's where they train to Grooks to invade Wynn.

Maybe it's some kind of ToA or something.

 

I think it's for a Minecraft server called "Wynncraft". Let me know what you think of my theory

 

Seems unlikely they would release something like this for a game called Wynncraft. My game theory is that it is for a videogame called Minecraft, but I could be wrong. It may be a stretch to say this, but it even may be coming out as an update to an already existing game O.O

 

The expanse has indeed been corrupted, but not by the corruption, it’s the darkness.

 

I believe it's a cool object to look at.

 

The Story tells that Twain wanted to create a world where spirits and humans could live together and would be free.

 

Um, I used the word corrupted because using "darkenified" or some other word would sound obnoxious, but I do know that Dern is not corruption.

The Realm of Dern has literally been in existence before humans even knew what Wynn was. For that matter, the Silent Expanse was taken over by Dern long before humans had ever been in that area.

Mael had nothing to do with Dern at all.
