SPOILER Inside The Staff's Brains - An Interview

Are you bullied and/or have no friends? Perhaps you should join the Wynncraft staff team. People want to be friends with you because of your title and name colour. All staff members are friends with everyone. Even Pepo has friends. I hosted an interview with 2 staff members, @Jbip and @DrBracewell, after dming 9 people. Moderators, CT members and heck, even admins. It is a good read and puts you into the eyes of the encaged CT. The interview is below.

Please introduce yourself and your personality.

Jbip: uh, I have no idea how to answer that

DrBracewell: I'm DrBracewell, I'm a command blocker for the Wynncraft server. I've been working on there for over two years now, and work with the other content team members to create the world of Wynncraft.





What rank do you have?

Jbip: i'm a gm who likes to make fun stuff?



How did you find Wynncraft?

Jbip: I was a fan of craftedmovie back in 2013 and I joined when they released a trailer

DrBracewell: I discovered it from one of Grian's old videos just after Gavel came out, and decided to check out the server the video was made on.





When and why did you decide to become staff?

Jbip: Last year because I so wanted to see what 1.18 was about

DrBracewell: After playing on Wynncraft for about a year, I decided that I wanted to help create the world and enrich the game experience for other players. I applied for builder, GM twice but then eventually realized that my best skills lay in command blocking, so I applied for that in summer 2017 and was accepted after I finished my trial.





How has being a staff member affected your personal life?

Jbip: It didn't really. I do think a lot about stuff I can add during class though

DrBracewell: For the first year or so, being a volunteer in the team took up a most of my free time, as that was what I really enjoyed doing. I never found it especially difficult to balance my personal and online life, the CT was just a big part of what I was doing at that time.





What is the community like?

Jbip: Well they're pretty cool for the most part, but some are just constantly ranting about every single thing. It's kinda cool though, except when their ranting just aren't making any sense

DrBracewell: I feel that the community on a whole is actually really positive, especially considering the size of the server and the fact that it's based on Minecraft, a game usually geared towards kids. People are mature and welcoming, and although I feel that some of the community feel has faded over the years as the playerbase got larger Wynncraft still has the best overall community feel of any other server I know.





What is it like being a staff?

Jbip: It's great, we're all big friends and it's cute. Sometimes it's annoying not really being able to leak

DrBracewell: Whilst I haven't been doing too much work recently as because of other IRL commitments, the Content Team as a whole is one of the best server teams I've worked on. There's a great structure in place that deals with workloads and rewards, and the group is really close friends with each other in general. People sometimes mix up the Content Team and the Mod Team, where the latter are the people who deal with rule breakers on the public server, the former is the one who creates the world people play in.





What is the worst mistake you have done as a staff member?

Jbip: Hmmm i dont think ive done any huge oopsie. So it'd be kicking admins out of the gm server

DrBracewell: I'm not really sure I'm allowed to talk too much about this, but one time I did crash the build server accidently when I was playing around with some item attributes.





What are the perks of being a staff member?

Jbip: You work on the game

DrBracewell: We get fancy name colours on the server, get to know what new content is coming out and get to playtest it, and at the end of each update depending on how much work you've done you get a couple free items from the store.





How much do you decide over the content of the coming update?

Jbip: Quite a bit actually, since it's less orders and more "do you want to do that or not"

DrBracewell:



What is one thing you would like to change in the management of Wynn?

Jbip: being able to show more than what we can during development

DrBracewell: How much of the upcoming update is shared with the community. I feel like the clear separation of the community and the CT is what has caused the backlash on a couple recent updates. If we were slightly more transparent - not revealing everything, just a couple more things to cause hype - with upcoming content, whilst making sure not to overhype anything we might get less of what happened with the 1.18 update.



What is your dream update (feature-wise)?

Jbip: Changing combat mechanics and getting more mob AIs, and tools to help us GMs do more things

DrBracewell: Honestly I'm not too sure. Previously I would have said a couple more classes, but with the 1.19 trailer that's already been revealed.





Have you made any friends while on the staff team?

Jbip: Everyone

DrBracewell: Yeah, quite a few. The CT is really close as a group, and there are definitely a couple people I've become friends with.





How much are you looking forward to the next update?

Jbip: Very, I want to see people's reaction to my quest

DrBracewell: Loads :D. We've been working on it for a while and are really excited to see how all the new players react to it.





What keeps you on the staff team and have you ever considered leaving?

Jbip: I just wanna work on cool simple stuff to make the world more alive. Studying also takes a lot of my time but it hasn't been bad to the point I felt the need to leave

DrBracewell: A couple times, yeah, especially recently. I would say I'm kind of losing motivation right now, and my other commitments IRL are limiting the amount of time I can spend working on the server, but I'm not ready to leave quite yet. At this point it's become such a large part of my life that I don't think I'm ready to say goodbye yet.



What do you look forward to when an update releases?

Jbip: People's reactions. What I don't look forward to is the overwhelming dread of the entire server breaking apart when an update releases

DrBracewell: Honestly waiting to see how quickly all the players discover the new stuff and the overload of forum threads that come out. It's fun just to sift through them and see what crazy theories people come up with.







What do you think about the 1.19 Grook Apocalypse?

Jbip: I do not know what that is but there's another animal that will take over

DrBracewell: The what? Well... you'll have to wait and see >:)

Oh that's just a tiny slip up. Mods do worse if they mess up so I get the eyes poked out, I'd reveal everything else but it's too bad...
