Idk Does Language Count As Art? A Small Sample Of Cohedic, A Language Of Mine

Hello!

For a while now, I've been working on a language that has gone through many changes. In terms of name it went from Laihiric (Lähjir then Läzao) to Cohedic (Xîrizao).
It's a language I designed for fun, and wanted to share with you.
Now, this document is just an introduction with a very small amount of words, so if you want a list of words, I can provide.

The document is about the pronunciation of the romanised phonemes, the general structure of the language and a little bit about the writing. More will be added in time.

Art is in many forms and subjective. I think what you've done is pretty damn cool, to come up with your own language and not get bored, pretty good feat I must say.

The main thing was if people use the art prefix it's generally drawings an such.

So are all the words just in English but with this new alphabet and different ways of saying it?

 

No, not really.
The word order is different and so is how you put words together. You can look in the document to see details on word order and such.
If you were wondering about the sentence, you need to read the information closely and take knowledge from the various examples I give throughout the document. There are no words that don’t appear anywhere else in the doc without a description.

 

Damn, that's really cool. And really good, my first few constructed languages were (and still are) mostly garbage. I actually know of a way to "write" the symbols fairly quickly and very consistently, if you're interested, PM me!

Doesn't "art" practically mean visual arts on these forums? Music and writing are also arts, but they have their own categories. If you asked me I would say it fits best into the latter, but even that's somewhat of a stretch.

Zi: Cat Za: Child Ojoi: Speak(plural with the ’i’ on the verb?) Varo: Person K’i: And Wo: (couldn’t find anything about it in the document) Œ|de|he: from the lake
In the end, it turned into ”Cat child speak person and (X) in the lake.” and with some guesswork ”Kitten, person says, is from the lake”. Probably pretty far from the correct sentence, but it was fun trying to solve it lol)

So, the sentence was: "Zi zaojoi vârok’ι wo œdehe".
You are correct about "zi" being cat. Za is not child, since child is "Cza". The actual word is "Zao", meaning speech. "-jo" is the 3rd-person verb suffix. You are correct in assuming that the "-i" makes the verb plural. Person is correct, as well as and.
As I said earlier, you need to look through the document very carefully to understand the sentence. There is a small star note saying that any instance of a Y-sound preceded of followed by another Y-sound, or a palatalized consonant (ex. "k'ι"), becomes a W-sound. As "Wo" is preceded by "ι", one can deduce that it was originally a Y-sound, "Yo", which means dog.
A guide of the sentence would be: |Zi| |zao|-jo|-i |vâro|-k’ι| |w(y)o| |œ|de|he|
Literally: "Cat speech-3rd_person_verb-plural person-and dog the-lake-from"
The sentence means: "A person and a dog from the lake speaks to a cat."

 

I now have a name in Cohedic.
I’m Xîrik’ι Reo Dovâro.

Update:
Classroom is coming along bit by bit. Is being hemmed by tests from school and other stuff in my life.
Currently working on a summarising grammar presentation, which is taking time because I need to list lots of things.

 

Some good and bad news:

Good news are I now have three different writing systems of varying complexity for those of you who want to check that out.

Bad news are the document linked here is now outdated for the most part.

 

Haha, have some more bad news:
Due to the sheer ficklety of the human mind, significant changes have been made to the language and I can gladly confirm that pretty much everything in the document is outdated.

On the better side, I have expanded and reworked the orthography inventory so we now have more and better characters for those interested. I will resume work on the Classroom shortly, aiming to make it up to date and finish up the basics so I can finally share it with you. I will most likely share the classroom in a new thread.
