Hi! I've tried searching the wiki, and can't seem to find an answer to this question. The only real difference I can find is that, for example, gold gives more of a health bonus than leather. Beyond that, it seems to be a mix of preference and stats shown. So I'm just looking for some clarification on this topic.

    Thanks!

No. The armor tier does not have any affect, it usually (not always tho) represents the required combat level for armor. Leather represents levels 1-20, Gold 21-40, Chainmail 41-60, Iron 61-80, diamond 81-100. Keep in mind that some sets (like the adventurer set) or armor pieces from quest rewards (like the champion set) can also be leather, even though they are not for levels 1-20.
