Yes.
The whole “gavel light dern dark and Wynn corruption in the middle” is mythic symbolism.

The lore of Cataclysm already confirms that the Nether Portal was opened through sheer force. With some sort of tool. Then Cataclysm is implied to be exactly that.

Dialogue in wynn excavation site d even states “the ancients placed some of that power in various crystals”, meaning corruption. They mentioned the origins of corruption, then noticed that Dark and Light caused that destructive force, then for some odd reason decided to place some of that power in the crystals.

Dern isn't even a province either. It's more of a realm based on what we've seen.

 

Thanks for clearing that all up! What I meant by “multiple, much smaller portals” was a whole bunch of very small, naturally occurring Nether portals that they discovered, and wanted to use as a power source, but that weren't big enough, so they decided to create the Nether portal. Like instead of a bunch of spread out diesel generators, they constructed a nuclear power plant for their magical energy needs. I don't know where these smaller portals would have come from, but it would explain just how exactly they came to know of the Realm of Darkness or the Nether or other such realms. I'm not really content with the 'they're creatures of Darkness ergo they know how to access Dark dimensions' theory. Why would are they 'creatures of Darkness'? Wouldn't it take, I don't know, some Nether portal to turn them into that?

Anyway, I'm still confused, and not very up-to-date with the Eye lore, and RtD will probably answer all my questions so I'll just leave it at that.

 

I meant because they originate from Dern, they were dark creatures. They have better connection with the whole fundamental otherworldly forces than any other race in Wynn, so they'd be more likely to know of the Corruptions.

 

I don't think cata's lore implies the fact that the nether was created by sheer force, but rather the opposite.
From what I understand from cata's lore is that even though the reason behind the nether existing has been discovered, some believe that having sheer force alone can open up a rift as well.
And it doesn't matter if dern was a realm or a province, what matters is the dark force that resides in it.

 

That is completely contradictory. The lore implies that even though the Nether Portal exists, not many people believe that it’s possible to rip open a hole in spacetime. There’s such obvious proof that holes can be ripped in spacetime but very few people believe it can be done. And beyond that, nobody believes there’s a tool that can do that..

Basic grammar would disprove this as well, if it was the Nether portal that disproves the existence of Cataclysm, it would be “Few still believe that portals can be opened with sheer force, despite the existence of the Nether Portal.”

 

Honestly, I think whoever wrote the lore meant to imply that force alone was not what opened the Nether Portal, but messed it up. You can find similar grammatical problems throughout Wynncraft.

 

Selvut wrote it. I seriously doubt he would miss something like that.

I’ll treat it the way it is implied grammatically until it’s changed.
