Build Dwarven Kingdom Entrance

A Dwarven Kingdom entrance I built without planning in my first episode of a survival series on a server, not quite sure what to do for a couple parts of it so I decided to come here to ask for opinions. https://imgur.com/a/FmhR7Xx

 

I suggest making those thing beside the main entrance pillars instead of things attached to the main entrance and the transition form ground to foggy lava is executed poorly. Put blocks such as netherrack, coal and cobble. Aside there is a lot of potential but a very long way to go.

 

Probably should've mentioned it was more for the building/path, was already planning on working on the terrain to make it look more like it is nether-ish.

There's a handful of things that definitively could be improved but there certainly are some good aspects as well.

Positives

I really like the use of stained glass, as a 'smoke' effect, especially in this situation, very well done!

I really like that you are innovating with new pallets and blocks. The combination of Netherbrick, quartz, and stone brick is a really creative and refreshing compared to some other pallets on the server.

I really applaud you for not overdetailing and slabspamming all over the place. Great work!

Negatives

I think the thing that could be improved the most here is 'shape'



I have highlighted the main sections of the build for you, the thing that I really want you to focus on here is the strict grid pattern here that you have created for your self. This is not good as the build is essentially just a glorified 2 x 3 grid of blocks. with no real shape.

Improvements

This is what you can do to make the shape of your build more complex!

- Make the gate bigger and add more rectangles of different sizes!
(its really that simple!)

Overall I think it look great for a survival build but It could definitily use some improvements. I really hope that you can take in the advice and find it helpful. :)

Thanks for the advice, it's actually the first time I'm attempting to build in this style so this will help out quite a lot! Pretty much just found a bunch of stuff that looked nice together and went from there.

 

It looks quite linear, if you were to go for more depth it would be even better. Still not bad though!

 

This is what I have upgraded it to, not too sure about the netherrack I put with the stone as part of the surrounding area though. I might also move the start of the lava flows up another block to make it a little easier to see and remove the weird bit I put above the curve of the netherrack above the H.
