I was playing on my assassin and my weapon gives me 2 strength skill points, but requires 5 to use. If I use 3 skill points for strength on my own and hold the weapon, I don't get the points and I can't use it. If I level 5 strength on my own, it kinda defeats the purpose of getting the bonus because now I am left with bonus skill points that I don't really need.

So what really is the point of skillpoints on weapons? The buffs they give your stats are marginal at best unless you're rocking a crazy boost, like 20+ sp, and having them doesn't help with adding pieces to a build (moving off of the weapon would make your gear fall off).

Idk; what's the point of having them?

They count towards your total. (Cap is 150) so if you had for example warp which has a requirement of 130 agility it would always max out agility since the minimum roll is 20 on the agility stat. This increases damage & the side effect of the skill point, in this case the side effect is dodging, so you will always have a 80.8% chance to dodge an attack.

The weapon needs to meet the requirement to give any bonuses, therefore the strength that it would give, wouldn't be added because the requirement is not met, it may seem like a waste however; it does contribute to the damage output you'll get from the added STR, sure it's only 2 points, but it's there.

Weapon skill points can't count toward armor requirements. Aside from that, they act exactly like normal skill point boosts. I generally agree that the benefits are pretty minimal, with the exception of Int in certain cases where it can meet thresholds.

It's currently intentional, although it's really weird.
