    [DISCLAIMER]

I don’t plan to make this a specific post about the inner workings of guilds and I didn’t plan to make this post as a directed attack towards any guild or person.

Now before you criticize me about the positive things I have to say about guilds I have to say this.

Guilds are a work of art. They’ve created some of the most beautiful communities, friendships, and even cultures. Wynncraft guild’s have created discords not only as a large chatroom for all guild members to join, but also as a place to establish a name for themselves, almost acting as some sort of nation or state role play. The most advanced guild discord’s have systems of government (and how the guild runs), community events, award ceremonies, and tons more. Guild’s are absolutely beautiful because they can represent the highest a person can be socially in a community where they can stand out.

Guilds can in more ways than one make Wynncraft the most enjoyable it can be. It can bring people from being a nobody on Wynn into a recognizable face. It can and has enhanced the quality of life for people. HOWEVER, guilds are significantly flawed. While it has the power to triumphantly bring people up from the ground, it also has the power to pull people down into the abyss triumphantly.

I’m talking about how toxic of a place guilds can be, and before anyone makes the argument “b-b-but of course guilds can be toxic it’s a game just like League or OW,” I firmly believe guilds take the cake for the most radioactive Satan hole in any video game I’ve ever played, even compared to those aforementioned games.

Now if you need a rundown on where this toxicity can come from let me introduce you to the idea of guild politics. you know those seemingly bordered territories on the map on wynndata.tk? Those aren’t just territories for most guilds to waltz in and claim. To the guilds that own those territories, those are their homeland. Now some of you might be thinking, “wow cool role play the guilds in wynn are acting like actual nations. I wonder what happens behind all those territory disputes.” This is where the issue arises.

People treat their guild communities as some sort of image on the map or leader boards of Wynncraft, and they take it seriously. It no longer becomes a role play but rather a meaningless passion a lot of people involved in guild politics live their lives in. In an attempt to create an image for their community, they enslave themselves by this idea of clout, sacrificing every inch of their mental health and time trying to bolster it. Treaties, alliances, and declarations of war have been made in between guilds and guild groups to try to grow and protect their clout, and this is the idea of guild politics.

Some people think this is great because the Wynncraft guild system has actually managed to make an irreplaceable government/state/nation simulator because of how

similar guild politics are to real life, and even I’m amazed at how it was able to evolve into this. However I believe this system has to change for the better.

I’ve seen guilds become hateful of other guilds because of guild political propaganda. I’ve seen people’s mental health go down the sewer because of how taxing guild politics can be for their time. I’ve seen people leave Wynn altogether because of failed guild political agreements between guild communities. I’ve seen people’s lives and loved ones harassed and torn piece by piece mentally because of how seriously people take guild politics. The government simulation is cool and all but is it really just to have that over than the mental health well-being of others?

I know for sure someone’s gonna say “oh but it’s their fault for getting involved into this mess,” but here’s the issue. People are stubborn. They don’t care about their own mental health or about the well-being of others. They treat themselves as if their health is less important than gaining clout. If they don’t see the suffering, might as well do nothing about it, right? People also want a name for themselves or their community and nothing else. This is the problem that needs to be addressed with guilds as a whole. The resources (Wynncraft territories) for clout in Wynn are too limited, and guilds will compete against each other as if it was the end of the world.

It sounds kinda stupid but that’s because it is stupid. Guilds shouldn’t be so serious about territories in a literal block game. I wish more people treated games as games and not as their entire life.

And knowing how stubborn people will be for this hellhole of a guild/clan system there HAS to be a change with the system. I won’t say what I have in mind for what guilds should have or be because that would already make this post too long andimrunningoutofspaceplshelp.

I just don’t want to see people ruin their mental health over Wynncraft anymore. Guilds are one of the few things that makes Wynncraft enjoyable, and I just want it to be that way for more people.

In my own experience (used to be pun now recently in hax) guilds taking over terriotories, etc never really got our guild members mad. And people never directly attacked other people over taking our territory because we all knew in the end it’s a fucking game and really guilds don’t even give meaningful rewards outside of guilds themselves. While I myself haven’t experienced this type of toxicity, if there are some toxic gamers out there, you should probably just realize that this is a fucking game and worse guilds don’t do shit to reward other than for pride and gamer egos. Guild rewards only reward you within the guild system so really it is very sad to be toxic towards other players just for taking your block game territories. Not to say that you shouldn’t defend thee territories if you want to, but just don’t be toxic about it when another gamer takes your territory.

Whenever you take a territory and a member of the guild swears you out. I have actually gotten used to it and find it funny, but it does say a lot about the warring community.

They really need to make it so that attacking a territory is more favorable than keeping one. It prolly wont be enough to undo what is already established in guild communities but it would be a starting point.

imagine if some shy 13 yr old was just warring for fun and then some random guy just messages him insults out of nowhere. that must be scary as hell for some people who just want to play the game

I agree, even being someone involved in guild politics. I don't like it, I think people take that shit way too seriously and make it personal (certain people might develop dislike for a chief of a guild they don't get on with for example) too often. Also some people need to remind themselves that guilds mean absolutely nothing outside of the guild itself (which does nothing), because some people take it way too seriously. Most people within the guild/warring community are fine but the lows within the warring community are really, really low. I understand that guild politics is in the name of progress in the eyes of the engaging guilds though, so it's likely not gonna change unless it's outlawed or better alternatives pop up. That being said I've never liked guild politics and I don't think many people do like it.
