What's The Deal With Rymek?

Seriously. Rymek just seems like a weird city. It's run by bandits and doesn't use emeralds as currency.
You can't get teleport scrolls and you won't respawn there if you die there/near there.
Not to mention the biggest weird thing-the black thing.

On the map is the big black thing with runes on it that covers the whole of Rymek so that it can't be seen on the map. It also seems to be hidning other stuff.

I'm only level 33 so I'm probably missing a big chunk of Wynn storyline but I'm just... what is with that big black thing and what do those runes say?

 

I don't think Dern (the big black "Coming Soon" area) has any relation to Rymek. I'm pretty sure you will respawn in Rymek if you're close enough, although that's uncommon because Almuj is pretty close to a lot of the canyon area. Being run by bandits doesn't really make it much different than many cities in the world - in fact, it makes it a good bit less chaotic than many real-life places.

The runes say "coming soon" in Wynnic. And they have been there for a looong time ;)
It is speculated, that Dern, a dark province/realm is going to be there in the future.
Idk why they covered Rymek, but I think it might have been covered by mountains anyway. The "other stuff" you are talking about is something, that I don't want to spoil. But you can find it on the internet if you want to.

 

Rymek being covered is just a function of the oblique point of view on the map. Dern doesn't, as far as we are aware, have anything to do with Rymek.

It's not that they won't see it, but they won't be notified that there was a reply to them.

 

I apsolutely hate Rymek too, so irrelevant and hard to get around. No memorable moments, although the different currency is kinda cool, and you can buy scrolls for it. Although they cost gold instead of emeralds, so I see how you got confused
