    The red plates with a red number like 20 or 16 what do they mean?

    Are you near an altar? These are the amount of specific items you need to use to challenge an altar. The item itself varies from altar to altar.

    If thats the one you mean.

    Most likely this is the item frame near a boss altar that tells you how many sacrifices you need to activate the altar.
