    I noticed while lootrunning that sale prices looked a little lower than they were after the most recent increase, so let's find out - scientifically. Primary interest is in the average sale price to blacksmith, with the assumption that the price range is uniformly randomized. Please post any data you have so we can try to find the formula for sale price.


    Level 90 legendary - 508 to identify, 438.5 average sale price. Net loss 69.5.
    Level 92 Rare - 126 to identify, 130 average sale price. Net gain 4
    Level 98 Unique - 54 to identify, 56.5 average sale price. Net gain 2.5.
    Level 85 Legendary - 482 to identify, 416 average sale price. Net loss 66.
    Level 85 Rare - 117 to identify, 122 average sale price. Net gain 5.
    Level 92 Legendary - 519 identify, 448 average sale.
    Level 82 Legendary - 467 identify, 402.5 average sale.
    Level 97 Rare - 132 identify, 136 average sale.
    Level 100 Set - 172 identify, 146 average sale.
    Level 86 Unique - 48 identify, 51 average sale.
    Level 90 Unique - 50 identify, 53 average sale.
    Level 79 Unique - 45 identify, 48 average sale.
    Level 97 Unique - 54 to identify, 56 average sale.
    Level 82 Rare - 114 identify, 118 average sale.
    Level 87 Set - 152 identify, 127 average sale.

    A few more price points should be enough to find a formula.

    Level 92 Legendary - 519 identify, 448 average sale.
    Level 82 Legendary - 467 identify, 402.5 average sale.
    Level 97 Rare - 132 identify, 136 average sale.
    Level 100 Set - 172 identify, 146 average sale.
    Level 86 Unique - 48 identify, 51 average sale.
    Level 90 Unique - 50 identify, 53 average sale.
    Level 79 Unique - 45 identify, 48 average sale.
    Level 97 Unique - 54 to identify, 56 average sale.
    Level 82 Rare - 114 identify, 118 average sale.
    Level 87 Set - 152 identify, 127 average sale.

    General pattern is uniques and rares have an insignificant net gain, set items have ~30E net loss, and legendaries have ~1EB net loss.

    That seems to be the general pattern, legendaries lose money when blacksmithed.

    Yeah...I've noticed this to. If I recall correctly its always been like this to some extent but honestly this should be changed. if a drop is rare we should be rewarded for it even if the rolls suck cause I mean....its rare. Punishing players for identifying items is just plain stupid cause then rares/uniques go totally unused or unsold cause why bother keeping them to ID?

    Essentially that. I have a list of item possibilities that I keep in mind, so I know what to skip - e.g. I never take 92-96 rare weapons because those possibilities rarely sell, likewise with 88-92 rare rings and leggings. Legendary necklace 88-92 obviously should never be taken because Shatterglass is practically never bought, so picking that up is just throwing away 2 EB.

    I think this was done to encourage the Trade Market but not everyone's gonna buy trash legends or rares so it sucks having to just drop them when loot grinding.

    Basically, yeah. There's no point taking any legendary weapons below level 92-96 range (except maybe bows for TTide), because no one is going to buy them, so you're just losing 2 EB every time.

    So never blacksmith them and sell them to players for like a bajillion emeralds

    No, just decide carefully whether you want to pick them up. Look at the range of options for a particular legendary and decide whether it's worth the loss on average.
