This proves much more difficult than initially thought. Since Ariane was caught in the middle of the crowd, it's pretty difficult to maneuver over to the side.

However, in due time, (about 3 minutes), Ariane reaches the side of the swarm.

I'm regretting double thinking myself, but would Q d1-d5 have been a better move?

Tbh, it would probably be worse.

Look at this.



This is what I would respond if you did Queen d1 to d5.



This is a check and thus you must either take the queen, move the king, or block the queen.

Your best option would probably be to take the queen and lose the rook.



However, this is much worse than the route you went because now you're down a full rook and pawn. Plus, your whole queenside is open, and you have an isolated a pawn against two queenside pawns. While you do retain a pawn majority on the kingside, I'm still up a full rook.

The other alternative is you either block or move the king (both are pretty much the same).



This is really stupid because if you block my queen with your knight (b1), bishop (c1), or queen (d5), I will simply capture your queen. If you move your king, I would still capture your queen. This is because you are forced to recapture, otherwise you would be down a lot.

But even then, this allows me enough time to get myself another queen.



So uh, it's worse than just taking my queen.

Ok Ariane actually makes some progress.

She comes in seeing range of the building and notices that the building that was being burned down is no longer there and the fire has spread to the nearby apartment buildings.

Ariane also notices a group of familiar... wait.

Oh.

She sees Rose, Fov, Chris, and Fabio watching this 16 year old looking kid who has some sort of white rift next to them.

The kid seems to be trying to tell them to go through the rift.

What now?

eh, i was pretty sure i couldn't defend my isolated pawn anyway.

y'know, the only reason i did f7 - f6 was in hopes that you would take my queen and allow me to "unisolate" my d pawn.
