I was playing before a year ago decided to come back because of the new update can someone help me to understand the update and what do you get if you upgrade your woodcutting skill a lot and what is the best profession to have as a high level

When you upgrade gathering skills (woodcutting, mining, farming and fishing) you will gather materials faster(every lv), have a higher refining chance(every lv), be able to use higher (every lv ending with 5 so 5,15,25 etc) and be able to gather higher tier materials (every multiple of 10 so 10,20,30, etc).

So if you upgrade your woodcutting skill a lot you can cut higher level wood and use higher tier axes.

There isn't any clear best profession to have at a higher level, it really depends what you want. However generally I could see the ones that make equipment (armouring, tailoring, weaponsmithing, woodworking and jeweling) be more useful then the others that give various buffs. Really depends what you want though like I said.

 

You use the various gathering skills in the professsions to craft your very own items using ingredients you can find throughout the world. That’s basically it

 

I highly recommend you to read the changelog, but here's a short summary:
-you can farm materials now (wood, fish, ores, crops)
-you can use these materials to craft your own items
-you can purchase twice the amount of bank pages
-we now have an ingame trade market (in the changelog it's mentioned as a secret feature)
-level cap raised to 104

-new dungeon (corrupted ice barrows)

-reworked ff conveyor belt
