I think most things related to items are related to the lore in indirect ways. The quests don't talk about items and banks but other optional NPCs reference them. Honestly it's kind of weird how it works, but if we relate it to the whole "greed" theory items early on don't really promote greed but rather meta game items, most notably mythics. Again it's just a weird theory I made up in my head explaining why nothing seems to progress for the better in the game's story.

It's not really that but more of "I found a cool powerful weapon, let's sell it for a ton of money". During the majority of the game we could care less about money, but for some reason players reaching end game care about getting money way more. Thus the theory is that the stronger soldiers succumb to greed, allowing the darkness to revive back to what it was before, and new soldiers fight it, creating a cycle that explains why the corruption/decay cannot die.

I can see where you're going with this, though if the bank is canon to the game (look at the above post) why would trading not be? If we trade emeralds/items to multiple NPCs throughout the course of the game, similar to how an economy works, why is the player aspect of the economy not included with this? Are soldiers not allowed to participate in the province's economic system through trading/selling the items they found fighting? I'm just curious why you say this cannot be canon to the player-based lore.

Didn't realise we were still looking for reasons to hate mythics, but okay.

I never liked them. For some reason after I found out what they were I kept making stories in my head about how they embodied sin and corrupted the people who were found by them. Ironically after I started thinking this the mythic found me, so that only made me think more creepy things about them.

To this day I still believe this and even thought about it at times while I was gone. To me it's an interesting story since these weapons are elusive, have creepy backstories, and revolve so much around the end game.

Because every irl player is a carbon copy of the original player; canonically, they do not exist. There is only one player, and they are the only ones who have a story like theirs, or find what they do, or reach the godlike level of power that they do.

But no, Greed has no correlation with the Corruption or Darkness. Villagers, which are greedy by nature, aren't attacked by the Corrupt, and can only be corrupted by direct contact with corruptive energies from the Roots or the portal itself as far as we've seen. Trading to get better gear isn't greed, it's literally that shit costs money in the world, trading helps the player pay for traveling expenses, item identifying etc., and the player needs new gear as their magical prowess is constantly advancing if they want to actually *cough cough* do their job. For fucks sake, the player doesn't even have a house. They've never even washed themselves properly in a long time according to the Talking Mushroom. If they were so greedy, how'd they get into Aldorei? (As hypocritical as those fucks are) Why did they volunteer and go halfway across the province just to feed a few homeless Desert dwellers? They might be a bit dumbfounded or act like robots (when they slaughtered three cows when their owner told him to bring them back) but no. It's like calling a guy who works a 9-5 job to support his children and keep himself alive greedy and evil.

Incidentally, that one part helped make Shadow of the Beast a really memorable quest for me.
