Hi y'all. Recently, when I was recently checking Wynn's old store items via the internet archive, something I hadn't thought of before occurred to me; The old themes looked much nicer than my memory served. This led me into making a few quick comparations, so I figured I'd want to point out some things publicly, share my opinion, and ask all of you for opinions now that it's been a few years since the change.

As a quick disclaimer, I'm not saying that the new style looks bad by any means. I still love the art. Before you read through the thread, you should also take a quick look at the comparations in the spoiler below.

I know Wynn's changed quite a lot from the old days, but I feel like the original site style's organic shapes still compliment Wynn's personality much better than the post-gavel one, which has an industrially clean and perfect look to it; Something quite far from the world of Wynn. (I also won't pretend like I'm an expert on the subject, but I'd like to point out that it's been psychologically tested that people find such details more pleasant and interesting to look at than straight and simple objects.) Art-wise, the old theme also had a much deeper and richer color palette on it. Meanwhile, the modern style's weak usage of colors looks quite flat, which results in the site looking bland and two-dimensional.

Among the usage of colors and shapes, the layouts don't seem to work that well on the modern style either. On the old theme, there was a clear section dedicated for content, with art working as a frame for it. The new style takes a different approach at arrangement though, and tries to blend content in with the background. At least in my opinion, this makes it harder to define what's content and what's not, making the site harder to navigate.

All in all, I feel like the modernistic and linear take on Wynn's sites, which should represent the fantasy world that Wynn is in, is chipping away a part of Wynn's personality it could have.

So, what do you think? Do you prefer the old style's original looks, or the new style's modern ones?

I agree with your analysis of the background art, but the text is much easier to read in the newer version. The stats page is also more defined now, but I can agree with the critique on the art.

Honestly, I like both, and I wouldn't want the design of the website to revert to its original style. I feel like the old art was more in the style of the Wynn province - dark, crumbling, and not that rich, whereas the new style is more like Gavel - neat, rich, and more magical instead of mystical. Maybe the design will change in the future when Fruma or Dern comes out, to reflect the game in its updated form better.
Also, get that villager from the old webshop a tissue to blow his nose with.

I think you might be wearing your nostalgia glasses half way on.
Though the style does indeed look more vibrant, it looks very unpolished.
New style however is too well done, to the point of being boring.

This idea applies to Wynn too. Many classic builds are being replaced by more modern structures, and then those once again one or two updates later.
The dev team belives that constant rebuilding of Wynn to keep more consistant and better looking style is a good idea, and while I do have to say that the new builds look nice, they are just that, looking nice.
Soon enough the entierty of Wynncraft will be rebuild, and people will forget the original builds. I might be wearing my nostalgia goggles, but I belive that more proffesional =/= Better looking, or more memorable.

How about an edited version of the old one. Eg if the text was too hard to read, make different colors etc

Now that that’s out of the way:

While the new look looks worse, it fuunctions better. I’d like some sort of hybrid, or evem a bunch of options like we have for forum themes.

Perhaps if there was more shading/shadows in the new version, a slightly darker and richer color of wood used for the shelf, and there was a general focus of brightness on the cemter where the content is (leaving the edges of the screen to be darker), it'd look a lot less flat and colorless.

It might also help if the near-perfectly straight lines framing in the content were a bit curvier like in the original (but not to too extreme of an extent), or were broken up here or there by chips and cuts in the wood, or some decorative way of rounding of the corners.

For a world facing decay, corruption, darkness, amd Lord Cow knows what else, the shop is just a bit too clean, bright, flat, and straight-edged to be realistic. It could use a dose of that ol' rustic charm that made Wynn beautiful back in the day ;)
