“Yes. Lady Praecantatia, or am I mistaken?”

“The average is 23 billion, but the recrd by far would be Gravekeeper, with around 1.4 quadrillion held in cryostasis.”

“Walk me all the way to town square and I’ll lead from there. The layout changed a bit from when I last was here.”

 

"Okay."

"Indeed. From what I've been told, I believe that you wish to send my daughter on an assassination mission to help save one of your high gods. Am I correct?" Praecantatia asks.

“Yes and no. I suggested it to Katie and Abigail, as their group would include your daughter should you permit it. Admittedly such a suggestion is out of my league, though my time as a general in a past life has shaped my interactions with others.”

It’s straight ahead, not too far off.

“Middle of the town, hard to miss. Pretty much the only park here, last time I came.”

 

"What would this assassination entail?" Praecantatia asks.

“As Atavul reincarnates, the Hive Master would need to recontrol him since his control breaks at the verge of death. The goal would be to get into his palace, find his rebirth chamber, and keep it clear until he’s too pissy to let anyone live in his proximity. Then, of course, get the hell out before any of us get turned into collateral.”

 

"So, if I understand correctly, continually assassinate or remove anyone who wishes to visit Atavul?" Praecantatia asks.

 

“With any luck, one assassination should be enough to get him to a point he’ll engage us with words instead of fire. We can’t continually do so because his followers are reborn in several locations, and keeping those on lock would spread us thin no matter how many forces Xlentia could spare.”

 

"Very well. I shall send Stephanie to you to be brought to Atavul's rebirth chamber, once she has been prepared. She will handle the assassination, and you will then be able to speak to him." Praecantatia says happily.

 

"Okay."

I'll keep walking straight ahead until I see something that resembles a park.

 

“Good to know.”
I nod.

 

“Hold up, I’ve been here for the past several months. You’d need to ask Rose or Miorah how to actually get out there. I’m just running off ideas because more and more refugees are coming here every day.”

 

"Is it possible for you to put me in contact with them?" Praecantatia asks.

 

Serra glances at Buddy as he manages to snatch the frisbee once again, smirking.
“You know, those kinds of questions are more Stella’s forte.”

You find a circular park (at least, there’s a tree, flowers, a few benches, a billboard, and a tire swing) at the center of town, Anne hopping off your shoulder.
“Okay... uh... wow they changed this place a lot...” She says as she slowly walks around in a circle.

“Personally, maybe Rose. I don’t know where Miorah is, but Rose is in Katie’s palace taking care of her sister.”

 

"Very well, thank you for your assistance." Praecantatia says, before her voice seems to vanish, the line going dead.

 

I watch Buddy.
"I'll ask her later."

 

Amber hands the phone back to Abigail.
“Well, I might head back off. I heard that Fenira was back on her feet here, and I’m not sure I like the possible implications.”

He rushes off with the frisbee again, Serra’s dog nowhere to be seen despite Luna and Soul rushing after Buddy. This time, they split up to try and cut him off.

 

I watch him for a bit before leaning down and grabbing a pinch of dirt, and just rubbing my fingers together and letting it fall.

 

"Stay safe, I'll try to fight off that bird-brained bitch when he comes back." Abigail says, sounding annoyed at the idea of having to deal with Chroma again.
