There are countless servers out there, each with a different experience tied to them. Anarchy servers, survival servers, PvP servers, etc. If you ever feel MC is getting boring, play something else for a while and then come back, makes it fresh.

 

i found something else that's fun, creating no seeded worlds and seeing what you get

 

Theres a good server called rsmv i recommend the magecraft world

 

minecraft is such a creative game so thats why there are so many different things to do. if you like PvP find a server where you can do that. if you like building then you can do it single player or on a server, if you like trolling then by all means find a server and have some good laughs. so many resources to do different things. i also find playing with my friends on servers is much more enjoyable than playing alone. if you dont know what to do on minecraft then find something you enjoy and just do it.

 

i think Mojang really messed up on balancing the game, as you can get loot and end-game equipment really fast, and grinders let you get any renewable resource effortlessly, once you've built them. the feel of the game has changed a lot since Beta 1.8 too, there are a lot more RPG elements now. I feel like the game would be much cooler if they instead focused on the survival aspects of the game, the game is no longer challenging anymore.

that said, i just wish Mojang gave Java players a mod api, i know we have forge, but the forge developers need to tear down the game's coding just to update. 1.14 is around the corner and we still don't have a 1.13 version of forge. imagine how awesome it would be to play mods without needing to restart your game? or downloading mods when a server requires it, right off the bat, like resource packs or plugins. the possibilities would be endless

 

thats why in the models folder inside texture packs there is "item" and "block"
so to answer your question, yeah you can, which is dope for map making
