Right now, guilds are kinda wonky. But here's the stuff about them:

First, the most significant part of guilds is warring. This is the most unbalanced part of guilds right now; don't be surprised to see one guild controlling the whole map. To learn more about it, look more into it by asking other people.

When you war, you try to capture a territory taken by another guild by having to beat a swarm of defenses they have put down. Once (and if) you have captured the territory, then you can buy defenses using your guild bank [more info about that below].

Second, alliances and enemies. Most guilds are present in alliances (even though the largest one, Federation has just died), which try to take over the whole map. Most of the time these are unfair, try not to get too involved.

Third, Guild XP and emeralds. Using /guild contribute, you can contribute emeralds to the guild bank, which is then used to buy defenses for territories. Then, using /guild XP, you can control the percentage of XP you gain that gets contributed to the guild (eg, if you put /guild XP to 50%, then if you get 10000 XP, you'll get 5000 and the guild will get 5000). This will make the guild level up.

So What's the Point? It's a fun way to meet with friends, and play with them.

Also, this might be inconsistent, because 1.18 is about to come out and it may have changed things.

    Cheers!

my advice, if your thinking about taking guilds and guild politics, dont get too serious about it, and take make the most of it.

while i cant flex my title anymore, i used to have the most wars out of anyone on the server, guilds and guild wars can be seriously addicting :D
