White is brighter and thus more detectable when using laptop to illicitly browse the internet while hiding under a blanket in your room- however, it's easier to see outdoors. Vice versa for dark theme. It really depends on the light settings around you.
Certain people I know also swear to a psychological effect between different colored backgrounds. A lighter theme feels, according to them, more cluttered than a dark theme with the exact same icons in the exact same places. Also, dark background is the default setting for Windows, which is owned by Microsoft, and they must be right because everyone knows that they're great people who bring incredible and revolutionary changes to anything they feel like.

I'm still salty about the new minecraft updates, even though I don't play a lot anymore. And don't even get me started on the combat update.

 

Use Starry Night. Light theme is too bright, Dark Theme is too blendy. By Blendy, I mean all the colors blend together a little making lines unclear and just a bit weird. Starry Night is perfect.
