Housing values have probably dropped around the area, so it'll probably be... say ~7,000 gold for a smaller one.

"Of course I didn't. Also, you don't know about him? Took down nearly every member of the arcane council? Went down in a legendary duel with one of the most powerful wizards alive? No bells?"
*BOOM*
The entire city experiences a proper, massive earthquake, and the building really shakes.
"So.... about those tremors."

Every single thing he's wearing is glowing with magic, and you can't make out the colors of half of it. He has an illusion on his face making him look older (his true face looks around 20) and very noticable pointed ears. Well, noticable to you, at least. There's another illusion on them making them look far smaller. A good chunk of his left arm is missing, replaced by some kind of magic device, also under an illusion. Seems to be a pattern with this guy.

Point is, something's up.

For the most part, it seems normal. city, bunch o' mountains on the horizo-
Wait. A mountaintop has gone from snow-capped white to blue. Honestly, your old eyes wouldn't have noticed it if it also wasn't moving.

 

Before the boom "I don't even know the damn pantheon, how am I supposed to know that?"
After the boom
"What the fuck is going on? And how did it happen with out me noticing while I slept"

 

Rip, oh well. Can I team up with someone?

 

Very visibly focus on his left arm.
"Are you... okay?"

 

"Oh great, somebody is trying to summon an elemental."

I continue walking.

 

Thorston opens the door, using his grappling hook to pull it open if necessary.
Thorston: "A little help? I can't exactly carry a body myself."

 

I'll try to see if I can get anybody near you. If not, next character to join does so with you.

His face is calm and inquisitive, but as he follows your gaze you can see him cast an even brighter illusion on the arm and pretend like nothing happened.
"Eh? Of course I am. Or, I would be, if I wasn't caught in the middle of..." *BOOM* "... that, what I'm pretty sure is the cause of the communication blackout with the capital. Thank the ghost-cat."

He pauses for a few seconds, thinking, before he claps his hands together.

"I'll leave Matt with you!"
Matt: "wait since when do I work for y-"

"It'll be perfect! You tw-three -four? I guess the cat is sentient.. will go up there, find out what's happening - oh, and I guess the cure that Dez needs - and I'll figure out whatever's causing the tremors and call in someone much, much stronger than me to deal with it!"

Someone's been running to catch up with you.
"Old man! Forgot to tell you something!"

There's a lock, but it broke overnight. The door slides open easily.
On the other side, a burly half-orc who can't be under 7 feet tall. He's wearing a shirt with the words "corpse retrieval" badly sewed on, with a vest on top. He sort of contorts himself through the frame, gazing around the room.
"2/3, eh? That's the best I've seen this mornin'. Sit tight, You're not gonna need to carry anythin'."
30 seconds later, he and the mage's corpse are gone, and rather quickly the woman on the other bed jerks awake.
"Ugh.... annoying mage is dead? Check. Stuff...?"
She rummages through some kind of secret compartment hastily carved into the bed frame. Looks like she wasn't robbed after all.
"..Check. Rodent thing? Don't car-"
*BOOM*
A massive earthquake dwarfing the previous tremors roars through the building. A chunk of the ceiling lands were you were standing maybe 10 seconds ago.

 

*frowns*
"Don't li-."

*blinks*
"Do you need help?"

 

"Well first I need a spellbook for a spell to identify items. Because that would be important"

 

Thorston: "Get your stuff, and let's get out of here."

Doesn't matter, it's on, and she ended up kicking open the door despite it being unlocked.
"Aaaand we're off!"

*BOOM*
A massive sound and tremor go through the building, enough to make your ears ring for a few seconds, and sections of the ceiling collapse.
Chaos. Again. Some guy shoves you on his way out.

"So I was thinking you needed a bard to liven up your journey, and decided to join you going up north!"

 

"I'll go with you?"

 

"Yeah kind of blew that one up. Can you teach it to me?"

 

She turned it into a fly becouse she's Giorno.

HM.... Thanks now YOU'RE going to flesh out this character in order for him to not be 2-dimensional sie character that is going to die off really quickly.

"That's a wonderful idea! Say have you ever tried magic? Also what's your name, becouse I think we're going to be together for a whillllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllle~"

 

"At this point? Sure. We probably have a few hours before it gets too ba-"
He's interrupted not by a tremor, but a distant yet unimaginably loud roar. It doesn't produce as much shaking, but every corpreal ear in the room has to take a second to make the ringing stop. Oddly enoough, the sky outside the inn window pales a few shades. Wouldn't be noticable if none of you were looking at the window.

This would be more threatening if he wasn't already a subversion of the joke.

"Honestly, I was ready for a dramatic explosion, with me being completely unharmed in the center of it. You're underwhelming, old man. Makes my job easier... but too boring."

 

"Oh, I see you're some vil spooky demon that i will now fight! No, I'm not doing this bullshit."

I draw a circle on the ground and stik four nails to make a square on the edges of said circle.

"Do you even know any songs?"

 

If I look in the direction of the tremors, what do I see?

And due to backstory, do I know anything about his species (elf I'm assuming?)
