"——ugh!?"

Jand leaned his face back in time at Ramadel's slice——but the tip of the blade still cut across the giant's left eye; not too deep, but a damage nonetheless. All around Jand, earth pillars rose at once, one of them catching Ramadel from under him and knocking him back. Ramadel gritted his teeth as he endured the pain and landed a few meters away, gripping his daggers. And just behind him—

"Damn.... it!!"

Kayde adjusted his sword grip in order to repel one of the flesh balls flying towards him, dodging the rest with careful steps. His left vision was currently sending hundreds of possible outcomes of his movements three seconds into the future, the trajectories of the enemy's flesh attacks and the consequences of them hitting Kayde. His visions were telling him that the moment any of these flesh balls touched his skin, he would be put out of action just like Gren.

Kayde quickly wiped the blood trailing from his nose as he was attacked by a terrible headache from the overload of information on his brain.

Andrei kept closing in his distance, even though he was becoming more and more frustrated by his attacks not reaching the opponent at all. Every angle and every trajectory he sent his attacks were dodged or repelled skilfully—there was no doubt that the brown-haired shield-user had an ability to read the future in some way.

".....hah.....hah......"

But the boy seemed to be near his limit.

"I.....swear..... you are worse than «Greed»....."

He was saying something Andrei didn't understand, but that didn't matter.

"Are you sure you want to continue?" Andrei asked, gesturing with his arm which was formed into a blade made of bones, and floating numerous flesh balls around it.

Kayde gritted his teeth. "I.... can only hold you off...." until the reinforcement come, he thought in his head.

Ramadel was still against the giant, and the younger boy was definitely dealing damage as he went through the giant's guards and slashed at the demi-human's open skin. If the two of them could hold the merchant and giant back, they could win———

If, unless, «Gluttony» decided to move.

"Guah...!!?" Something burst out from the merchant, Andrei's chest, and lifted him into the air from behind.

"Ahaha!! Andrei, was it? Thanks for the support until now!" A high-pitched voice cried in a childish manner—and at the same time, Andrei's body was thrown violently to the side, where the man rolled over many times before going still. Standing before the pool of blood was the brown-haired girl, «Gluttony» of the Cardinal Sins, Rey Beelzebub Farrenveitos.

"What! Rey!" Jand shouted, stopping in his movements. Ramadel also seemed shocked—everyone was; the Sin had just attacked the person who had been defending her.

"....w-why......" Andrei staggered up, holding his chest, trying to repair the massive hole in his chest. He saw Rey lift her hand—which had transformed into a giant claw with black skin. From her head grew a short, black horn—representing her existence as a witchfiend.

"Ahahaha!! Now it's our turn!!" Rey shouted, spreading her arms as she laughed.

"——tch——!!"

Kayde stepped back and raised his shield just as Rey took off at an inhuman speed, swinging her hand that was now a giant claw.

"–—an attack! «Gluttony» is at the southern gate!"

The news was delivered immediately to the town hall after the fight had begun.

"—tch! From the morning!?" Estelle muttered, then ordered towards the people around her—Fourier, Angela and James, as well as a few others of the Iron Fangs and the Belstain guards.

"Evacuate the citizens towards the north! Anyone who can fight will move out immediately—this is our chance!!" She ordered, and everyone moved at once, reaching for their weapons, readying their gears.

Estelle gritted her teeth. There were knights currently stationed near the four gates: Carol at the East, Fenri and Rathius at the West, and Lucian at the North. And at the south, Gren Walker and Kayde Ferris. Some Iron Fangs members were stationed around in the area as well— hopefully, they could hold off «Gluttony» until they arrived.

———Suddenly.

The earth shook violently, and everyone stopped their movements.

"...........shit!"

Fourier, who was a fox demi-human, was the only one who could react beforehand. The knight immediately leapt towards Estelle and tackled her to the side of the room—just as from the centre of the town hall, a massive black shape appeared.

Angela retreated with her wind magic, James shielded himself with an ice wall. But some of the knights and mercenaries were caught in the blast— two, or three had been killed on the spot.

"-----no way...!!" Angela cried as she saw the thing that had broken out from the ground.

——the same black centipede that had appeared in the Capital attack was slithering out from the hole it made on the ground, breaking the base of the town hall in the process; the three-floored building was going to collapse, with everyone in it.

"——!! Dragon boy!"

Rathius turned to see the fox demi-human, Fenri Argoyle running towards him.

"What happened?"

"«Gluttony» and two other Cultists attacked at the South Gate— Gren, Kayde and an Iron Fangs member is engaging! We'll go support!"

"——!! Got it. I'll transform—you'll ride me."

Fenri nodded, then turned to the other knights in the area, her tone serious. "All of you, move towards the South gate, and help the evacuation. Engage if you can!"

Rathius had transformed in the clearing—steam gushed out from his large red figure of a dragon. He lifted his neck and gestured to Fenri, who nodded and leapt on his back.

And immediately Rathius took off, towards the South side of Fleur, where he could see a battle was starting faintly.

His sight was fixated on the battle—that he didn't notice the presence closing in from above.

"——Dragon boy!"

Rathius swerved left just as Fenri cried—but something tore his right wing. A giant black bird, slightly smaller than Rathius, passed by. The monster had two long necks and heads, each with sharp beaks and horns on their forehead.

Rathius's wing was severely damaged—he started dropping altitude at an alarming rate———

Blue light flashed, and Rathius felt his wound heal immediately. He opened his wings wide and flapped, stopping before he was about to hit the ground.

He snorted, thanking the demi-human on his back; the title of «Kingdom's Best Healing Artist» was not for nothing.

Now—for the battle. He saw three of the two-headed vulture-witchfiends above him. There were panicked civilians under him, as well as the town which evacuation was still not finished.

 

Rathius looks at the witchfiends and blasts out a spray of fire when they get close enough.

 

The monsters screech in alarm, and with impressive reflexes, flap vigorously to stop their movements. One of them, however, failed to stop in time and was hit by the inferno, and with its entire body scorched, fell to the ground past Rathius.

"Kraaaa!!"

The two other monsters produced unpleasant sounds as they screeched, then swerved away from Rathius, heading towards the ground past the dragon.

——there were two Iron Fangs member running down the street, as Rathius could see in that split second.

 

Rathius transforms back to his normal form.

"Let's go. They're close."

I follow the Iron Fang members and get ready to cast Gao to create fireworks as a distraction.
Like.. hundreds of tiny particles.

 

If I notice Rey attacking Kayde at inhuman speed, I'll respond the same way. Attack her with inhuman speed. (Only one strike though. -.-)
Just go in a straight line away from Jand and towards Rey, hoping that pure speed wouldn't allow him to stop me. Dash low from the ground and aim at her legs with a slash.

 

"Really? This? Right now?!" Shout in incredulity, then grit my teeth as I look at the corpses.
"For the Dragon's sake..." Draw an arrow and aim for somewhere between the shells near it's head. Shoot with a Fula to make the arrow go faster.

 

"Hey knife boy, how about we make a truce for now?" Jand shocked by Rey twists his head to look at her.

 

The Iron Fangs responded by nodding, and immediately leapt forward towards the two large witchfiends, each taking one of them.

Rathius created hundreds of tiny flame particles at the back with non-incantation magic (Goa is a fireball) and sent them towards the two-headed witchfiends' eyes, so that their attention would not turn towards the civilians running away from the fight, led by Fenri.

——as expected from the 'Iron Fangs', the beastmens' fighting abilities were impressive. In less than a minute, they had cut down the witchfiends with Rathius's magic support.

Fenri came running just as one of the mercenary readied his long claw weapon at the wounded bird's neck.

"Wait! I need to try something! Can you hold it down?"

Rathius assisted the two Iron Fangs in holding the witchfiend down, and its two heads screeched weakly back.

"......Be ready to kill it immediately." Fenri said, then reached down and put her hands over the two heads.

———warm blue light covered her hands, healing the birds. The monster tried to resist the moment its wounds were repaired, but the strength of the demi-humans held it down. The 'healing' continued for a few more seconds——until the witchfiend started to give a strange reaction.

Gritting her teeth, Fenri seemed to be fighting with something, sweat starting to appear on her face. ".....ugh...... the mana in them has been permanently mutated....."

Rathius remembered that these witchfiends, created by «Gluttony»'s Authority, were originally humans. If Fenri was trying her 'healing art' on them, these witchfiends might——

"———K-k-kKi-lLl-L m-Me-e........"

"———i-I-iIt-ts-sS-s..... tT-oO-o Ll-lat-tEe......"

Maybe it was difficult to produce human language in the mouth of a bird. The two heads produced barely interpretable, ugly screeches as their body became slowly still.

Fenri closed her eyes, making a mortified and sad expression. She slowly nodded to the Iron Fangs. "......please kill them."

The mercenaries, with dark expressions as well, brought their weapons down on the witchfiend's necks, killing it instantly.

———it was clear that there was no saving the people turned into witchfiends, when the Kingdom's best healing artist has failed.

 

"We have to stop her. This is maddening."

 

–——swish!

Angela's arrow sank into the witchfiend's flesh between its shells, making the centipede creature wither in pain. She continued to draw arrows from her quiver and shot repeatedly between the centipede's shells, hitting their mark with every shot with her Divine Blessing.

"——! Fourier, evacuate the upper floors immediately! James, support the building structure until then! Angela and I will take it down!" Estelle shouted, already starting to run towards Angela. Fourier turned into a large fox with two tails and immediately leapt into the floors above, the other knights following. James created ice pillars as his horn on his forehead sucked in mana from the air, and using his ability to the maximum limit, he succeeded in stopping the above floors from falling down on them.

"I won't last long!" James shouted in alarm as he endured the massive amount of mana flowing in an out of his horn, to the point it was painful.

"Angela, keep attacking!" Estelle shouted as she raised her hands—and shouted. "Ul Fula!"

With incredible mana control, Estelle's wind magic bound three points of the centipede on the spot with compressed air, stopping its movement for a moment. The centipede resisted with crazy force, and Estelle felt the spell slowly dispersing. But at that moment——

Angela had fired more arrows near its head, giving definite damage, then expanded her wings and leapt up—barely against the ceiling—and cast her magic.

"Fula!"

A wind blade with increased force, controlled in direction with her Divine Blessing, hit the place marked with her arrows and cut its head and body apart. The monster withered around greatly for a few seconds, then became still.

"Everybody get out of the building!"

They evacuated from the windows, and James released his magic just as Fourier leapt out of the third floor with people on his back——and the town hall collapsed.

Ramadel didn't answer Jand, but heard the giant. The boy still didn't let his guard down against him, but decided to ignore him for now. Boosting his speed to the maximum limit, he shot towards Rey as she was heading towards Kayde with both her hands mutated into massive claws with elongated talons.

"Hah—!" With a cry, Ramadel bent low and sent his energy into his legs, boosting forward and leaping past Rey's front, cutting across her stomach deeply.

Ramadel slided to a stop as he readied his shortsword against the girl, who lurched forward as her stomach was cut open. A great amount of blood poured down from the wound—and Ramdel started to prepare for another strike at the Sin's open neck———

"Aa~h. I like you as well!!"

Rey suddenly crouched down as Ramadel swung past the girl, his slash aimed at her neck missing.

"....!?"

She should not have dodged that, unless it was some kind of ability like Kayde's, as his movement was as fast as could be.

Could it be..... intuition? Ramadel thought in that split second. There were many types of 'intuitions'—fighters who've been through many near-death situations could adapt and sense killing intent. And so could wild beasts, such as animals and witchfiends, as they developed sharp senses and reflexes in the wild———

Rey was becoming a witchfiend herself.

"Ramadel! Get away!!" Kayde shouted—and just as he leapt back, Rey's entire body shook violently——and things burst out from her back.

They were legs—black, metallic spider-like legs, four of them in total. As well as a grotesque mixture of many witchfiend skin and flesh covering her neck, back, legs, arms—strengthening her overall abilities.

As Ramadel drew in his breath at the Sin's sudden change, Rey turned and dashed towards Ramadel, her four new legs lifting her body and travelling even faster than before. And the battle between Ramadel and «Gluttony» began.

Andrei was confused. The strange but helpless girl until last night had changed dramatically—from quiet and melancholic to a childish, and terribly cruel personality.

Could it be....?

Andrei suddenly remembered the shield-user calling them 'Witch Cultists' the moment they saw Rey.

Rey was obviously becoming a monster as the young black-haired boy who had been fighting Jand started to battle her.

......The information of the Witch Cult and the attack on the Capital. «Gluttony» was supposed to have the power over witchfiends——

These people were knights, then? Andrei, finally calm after getting over the panic and anxiety of being attacked, understood.

Rey........ she was «Gluttony»!!

Everything was becoming clear—why she was restrained like crazy as she was being transferred. Why she drew witchfiends in. Why she arrived at this timing.

But for some reason, Andrei was uncertain—and so was Jand.

Then what was the weak little girl until last night? If it was not an act——

Andrei shook his head. For now—to prevent her from causing further damage.

Andrei released his restrain on the knife-using assassin-like knight on the ground.

Jand sensed numerous presences underground, approaching them. Understanding immediately they were earthworms, he swung down his hammer down and sent a shockwave underground, hardening the earth and squashing the witchfiends with the weight of the earth.

But other life forms approaching were undamaged by the earth attack and came out of the ground.

————Three enormous black centipedes appeared on the field. Jand understood that they were on a different level from the earthworms he had just killed. Andrei also understood that they were the same creature that decimated a part of the Capital and was finally hunted by Royal Knights. Three of them.

 

Oh sorry. I've been very busy. Both actually busy and mentally busy.
I've just kind of seen where the story goes. Also I'm never quite sure what to answer.

 

Turn to Estelle and smile. "Thanks for the help. It would've been a lot harder with it moving around."
Then, turn towards the rest of the group.
"Is everybody here?" Ask loud enough for everyone to hear.

Fenri nodded grimly. "————Yes. Let's go."

The entire town was in absolute confusion.

Tens of hundreds of witchfiends appeared all over the town, from the sky, from underground, from the forest around the town. The knights and mercenaries fought back with all their might; against a gigantic hippopotamus as hard as a boulder; a black-furred lion that melted into the shadows of houses and people; flying rats that exploded into poison upon death; vultures with two heads, monkey-like creatures with two snake tails.......their heterogeneous forms were spreading the seeds of confusion and despair throughout the town.

Angela flew around, targeting the flying witchfiends and the poison rats with her never-missing arrows and wind magic. On the ground below, citizens were being evacuated towards the center of the town—Ordo Trading Company's storage building. Moving out of town was now dangerous as witchfiends were pouring out of the forest.

James proved to be their strongest asset; with his ability, he was powerful against many, dealing wide ranged deadly attacks against the opponents approaching from air and ground. Fourier in his fox form dashed around the battlefield, ripping the witchfiends apart in his way with his fangs and claws. Estelle with her sword skill 'Hundred-Man Strike' cut apart monsters one by one.........

Jand was forced to fight the three giant centipedes at once— their shells were almost indestructible, his earth magic dealing almost no damage because they could dig through the ground. Jand swung around his warhammer, hitting the creatures and keeping them away from going deeper into the town and its inhabitants. Andrei used his fleshcrafting abilities to take out the animal-form witchfiends that started appearing from within the forest; from wolves, panthers, snakes and monkeys.


And as for Kayde and Ramadel———

«Gluttony» was destroying the two.

"Ahaha, ahahahaha!!"

Hard, heavy tentacles swung around the air, elongated from Rey's arms that were now completely heterogeneous. Rey's body was now a monstrous mass that produced all kinds of animal parts—from claws to scales to spores to mouths.

"Hngh!?" Ramadel had been holding against the Sin for some time now, but his stamina was starting to run out. With his physical fatigue, his concentration was failing.... but the reason why he had not been killed until now was thanks to Kayde—him warning Ramadel before Rey could launch a surprise attack. But even Kayde was running out of vigour; blood poured from his nose, a terrible headache whitening his vision every second. And when he finally faltered, the end was quick.

"Kyahahah!!"

Rey's massive arm hit Kayde's shield head on, knocking him back. At the same time, her other arm transformed into many tentacles that caught Ramadel's limbs, throwing him into the fountain in the distance. Ramadel hit hard against the stone structure, and finally lay still, unable to get up from fatigue and pain.

And the next second, the tentacles turned into hundreds of thorns, shooting towards Kayde, piercing his unguarded legs and feet. Just as the knight cried in pain, Rey's other arm transformed into claws and slashed up—cutting his right wrist with his sword completely off.

"Ughh....aaaggghhhh!!!???" Kayde fell back, attacked with the terrible pain that erupted from his arm. He couldn't help but scream—he was no longer able to think logically, or risk passing out by watching the future.

"Ahahaha! You're done now, sir knight!" Rey cried happily, baring her elongated fangs, and raised her arm that now was a massive dragon's.

And just as Kayde readied for the finishing blow——

Rey's massive arm was cleanly cut off.

"......eh?" Rey gave a shocked mutter as blood sprayed out from the wound.

Behind the Sin, having erased her presence completely, was Carol in her after-swing position. The knight didn't waste a single second before she attacked the Sin, cutting apart her skin, her tentacles, her thorns—with such refined movements incomparable to Kayde's and Ramadel's.

Even Rey seemed to sense her danger. Giving an inhuman growl, she leapt into the air after mutating her legs with black muscles. From her back grew out four bat wings, which flapped powerfully and kept her in the air.

"Damn you, knight!"

Carol, understanding that she would not be able to reach the Sin, dashed straight towards Kayde. She threw his nearly-unconscious body over her shoulder, then took off immediately towards Ramadel. And while doing so, shouted towards Rey.

"Damn you, too!"

Guuaaaaaaaarrghhhh!!!

Before the Sin could react, a red dragon swooped down from the sky, opening its mouth, and sent a massive wave of inferno over her. A muffled scream came from behind the fire, and they could faintly see the figure of Rey falling to the earth. Rathius did not stop his fire attack even after landing, even after Fenri dashed over to where Kayde and Ramadel lay to heal them. Carol, after sending a worried look to Kayde, came back to stand next to Rathius in front of Rey.

The Sin was a massive lump of charred flesh, until her body shrunk and became her human form.

"G-gah....aha....haha........a-aghhh....."

Carol readied her sword to finish the Sin; she understood that any act of hesitation would cause further damage, and the girl had to be removed. Just as she started to move———————

An earsplitting scream filled the air, coming straight from Rey. The scream changed its tone and pitch over the second, turning deeper, more monstrous. Everyone in the area, including the witchfiends, including people all inside the town—they felt their body being attacked with a terrible coldness, preventing them from moving.

"Ughh!?"

The scream continued, and Rathius was forced to take steps back as he received it at close proximity. But next to him, Carol stepped forward, lifting her sword—she didn't seem to be affected as hard as the people all around her. She pierced her sword through Rey's stomach, and with a pained and guilty expression, cut her in half.

The scream stopped abruptly as Rey's upper body fell to the ground. Carol sheathed her sword, and looked away; no matter the circumstances, she had just cut apart a girl around the age of 10. She couldn't help but feel guilty about the fact.

"A....hahah...... so you..... have..... affiliation.... with the Genes......" Rey muttered weekly as she turned her head to meet eyes with Carol. "......that was.... well done...... but...... too late."

"What——"

A screech. At a volume incomparable to Rey's previous 'scream'.

———————a fog was covering the sky..........................................

 

"What's happening now?!" Rathius thinks.

 

You have no idea of how much satisfaction I got from her dying.

Kill off as many as I can with normal attacks, then aim at the forest and concentrate to create an Ur Fula in that region.

When the screeching and the fog starts, turn over to where it is coming from and look at it for a while. "What...?"

 

Hmm...
I think it's rapid-fire ballista time.
