Thoughts On The State Of The End Game

So is it just me or does the end game build pool feel diluted? I keep seeing the same items in the same fashion keep cropping up. Is it just me or does there not seem to be enough options right now in the game for end game?

 

I'm not one of those class builds experts, but here's my 2 cents.

Probably, because in most games there's usually some sort of Meta, where people generally use the best stuff available. After all, no one wants to have a crappy build. Having a somewhat diluted end game build pool is inevitable, no matter how much balance is done.

Right now things seem better than they were though, there's a lot more build variation than just rainbow slap now. The next update will also bring item changes like a Morph-Stardust nerf and new items, so that should freshen stuff up. There's definitely room for improvement.

 

There will always be items that are better than others. Ovbiously, perfect balance isn't possible. adding more items won't fix the issue. For example, let's there was a legendary dagger that was basically a Cata x1000, this would make Cata irrelevant. And now we have the same problem, and basically the same number of items because Cata is now useless, and everyone will use the new item in their builds. (ovbiously my example is extreme, and such an item would never be added, but even if an item is a slightly better replacement to an old meta item people are going to use it, making the old one useless.)

I probably should have made this clear. I mean weapons. There doesn't seem to be more than 1-3 viable daggers for the end game of any element. It seems very diluted and I don't think that there are many end game weapons per element per class. Is it just me trying to achieve the best build combination possible or is the system actually lacking in weapons?

 

Ah, I do agree that there are a lot of really trash weapons compared to a few incredibly good ones. I don't think there is a shortage of legendary weapons and maybe not even mythics. But I think it's more about the synergy between items, as Cata goes extremely well with things like thunder sanctuary and other thunder items. So, we're left with only a few items that go with the numerous combinations of armor and rings and pots. What I mean by this is that it's not that there's a shortage of items, it's that there is a shortage of items that go well with each other.
I am not a game designer, so I don't know how to balance things correctly, but I think before they add more items they should balance existing ones. (Which they are actively doing, not trying to criticize the item team)

 

Wynncraft has a very good item system because there is no best build. It all comes down to your preferene and even then you can choose between getting a little more dps or making spells one mana cheaper or having that extra bit of health. And there will always be people that come up with new strategies and such. It’s just a good system. And SP reqs make it so builds have to focus on something and can’t just use everything that’s ”the best”.

 

I would love to know a good earth spell build that doesn't utilise the Hive Dagger and Manna is a hybrid so it's out. I'm talking about the lack of preferences of items in game. @BloodArchmage recently compiled a list of items that were from 80-100 and I was shocked to know of the total no. of items per element. Just have a scroll. Feel free to express your opinions, this is just my opinion.

There are more than enough combinations and choices for endgame builds. It’s just that there is a specific META that most people follow (Cataclysm builds, rainbow, hive gear, etc). Be original with your builds, you may discover a new build that works specifically for your play style!
