The Skywars Rant

Minecraft was ruined because of this gamemode. On most massive servers I cant find a good game of any of their original games because all the kids play is skywars. It’s ruined the feel of multiplayer minigame servers and most servers like this sport 3 or 4 Skywars spinoffs just to please 6-12 year olds. Skywars takes 0 skill and should honestly be banned from this game. I swear if Wynn would ever shut down I would lose hope in Minecraft.

hypixel managed to make bedwars at least somewhat variated and enjoyable
skywars not even that
bed wars, while rushing clearly is the meta (just like fox in melee... i fucking hate when only 1 option of many is viable in a game) you can still have good fun casual games, because bedwars and skywars dont have much complexity and that kind of eliminates any possibility of actually taking it into a competitive way, yet the game is pretty fun if played with the mindset of having a fun time and not taking it too seriously
skywars however doesnt even reach any complexity, there is no meta,you just have a bunch of chests with random loot tables, and hope for you to get good gear (which sometimes ends up in you losing due to gear inferiority due to a fucking loot table (skywars and lucky islands are the main reasons i think RNG is the worst kind of gameplay tool you can use, specially when generating a set of items, as someone can end up getting a full set of iron and a few blocks in his own island yet another one gets 5 eggs, one stone sword and a ton of blocks)

skywars is also a very lazy gamemode, it is simple enough to be entertaining for a few games, but it is soo simple it ends up getting affected negatively by this, because it is soo simple you end up getting bored, every game is exactly the same as the previous one
Bed wars at least can pull different playstyles, you can go for a ranged-based playstyle using throwables like fireballs and silverfish, and bows, or go sneaky by using invisibility potions and stay invisible forever (trust me this is possible, ive seen some nerd in Castles do it once and he survived like 5 minutes through invisibility potions against 40 dudes witch hunting him)

the sad thing is knowing minigames like this are killing gems like Dwarves vs Zombies and Warlords, by overshadowing it
Sure, in hypixel you might see warlords when looking at the menu, but almost nobody plays it, why? it is too complex
which is sad as fuck, this shows up how lazy kids can be nowadays
a few years ago i was already trying stuff that required more than one braincell to proccess, and found major joy on them, examples being Dwarves vs Zombies (looks simple at first, but it actually has quite a few mechanics and it takes a while to assimilate them all)
it took me a bit to learn what it worked like, and guess how many games i played of this when it was still playable (in the sense of games happening) when i got how it all worked? more than 1000 fucking DvZ games ive played
same for wynncraft, at first gavel looked complex, so i kind of gave up for a bit, but then i came back and started getting how everything worked again, and now ive started a small guild that now evolved to a pretty nice little community with a few plebs that have a serious addiction to warring just like the DvZ fever i had in 2016

many gems are ignored because they require more than 1-2 braincells to proccess it, after all, i pressenced many people leaving DvZ after their first game because "it is too complex"
and sadly, this wont change, the minecraft community's general age is about 10 years anyways, and judging by how many just follow trends, it is clear that unless the stuff i mentioned before gets a ton of visibility in the community, they will remain dead, under the bed of this skywars and bedwars trend, which will eventually die like the hunger games (remember when this minigame was everything? yeah, now in hypixel there is like 90 people playing it at once, at much)

while trends sometimes popularize stuff that do deserve it (games like Cuphead (visually, this game deserves all the praise it got, it simulated the 30s vibes really well in my opinion), Minecraft (lets be real, minecraft when taken everything but the community in consideration is a really good sandbox game), Cave Story (i heard this game was very popular back in the day) and many others) lots of games end up unknown because the popular stuff overshadows it (we could be giving attention to other games but everything is going to fucking Fortnite and im not joking when i say im getting tired for real of seeing this shit game everywhere, its not bad at all but mother of god this makes Undertale and Minecraft when they were released look like they were known by noone)

so, until the minecraft community changes, we cant expect this to change

I’m honestly waiting for a massive YouTuber to revisit some of these old Minigames so people actually play them. Let’s take some smaller minigames for example: Ender Spleef. I enjoyed that game a ton mostly because if done correctly it could be played competitively. However with Skywars about 70% is based around RNG. With Bedwars at least it doesn’t rely on RNG for most of the game

 

eh I thought it was fun when I still played minecraft.
I used to do it as warmup for uhc games. I don't like it anymore because I'm not interested in Minecraft in general anymore. And I can guarentee you that you need skill to play the game.

 

Honestly i feel the exact same. Huge servers like hypixel are getting lazier and lazier with their random luck chance no skill vanilla PvP copies and im fucking sick of it tbh. It's just cloned over and over and over again until there's no money left to suck out of 8 year olds. Skywars isn't the worst, but new games like as texhnoblade so elegantly put it 'stand on the square' are just fucking insulting.

 

Ya, Skywars was the first of many PVP gamemodes that decided to choke out actual gem gamemodes. Bedwars isanother one of these but skywars was the granddaddy of the brand. It's a shame because there were so many other good gamemodes that took a back seat because all everyone wants to play is a crappy fighting game. It had its time but now its just getting insane at this point.

I enjoy BedWars, and I used to play SkyWars a long time ago, on some server where that was ALL it had, and I enjoyed it then, but I agree, it's changed a lot, and not entirely for the better.

I never liked smash heroes but I heard people say that it was very good to them, it’s unfortunate people can’t play their favorite game on hypixel because of kids playing skywars

 

Yeah, right now the general community is; one, either you go against some level 1,500, or two; you go against someone who accidentally clicked on the smash heroes icon but decided to play it anyways.

 

Warlords used to be one of my favorite parts of Minecraft. The amount of variety and complexity there was in the game was much different from a lot of other modes. I wish that I could play it but no one plays it anymore :(

 

True, although in my opinion, I like Skywars(Don't hurt me pls)

 

Kids don’t understand challenge anymore. Sometimes I too get frustrated with hard challenges however I don’t complain about it.
