Don’t Be Angry At The Ct

Sorry for thread spamming recently, but I just had a lot of things on my mind.
Also there hasn’t been a wholesome thread in a while, might as well make one.
Recently, Uncle Grolan locked the thread regarding the delay of RtD, due to the extreme amount of hate the content team received for putting RtD aside. When Grian shared the thread, I believe it was to share with us what had been made, the disappointment HE AND THE CT had at being unable to work on RtD at the moment and to tell us “Hey, we actually did some shit like jp, we aren’t just stagnating and having pool parties and ignoring Wynn like mooman”, not for us to share our disappointment at them for delaying it. It’s not their fault, and while I feel you have the fullest right to be disappointed at the fact it cannot be completed, you shouldn’t be disappointed or angry at the CT, they’re just as disappointed as you probably are. They most definitely worked very hard on RtD as well.
To the CT, while that thread may have shown what the worst part of the community looked like, you should always stay positive and ignore the hate (probably easier said than done but still), cause there’s always grateful people like https://forums.wynncraft.com/threads/thank-you-content-team-for-making-a-good-server.233248/ around, just know that we love and respect you guys.

One positive aspect to keep in mind is that since RTD already has some progress, we can expect the update following this one to arrive at a much faster rate.

Like Grian said, at the end of the day I doubt that everyone is going to be happy about the state of the update, it's sad that people's differences got out of hand and the thread had to be closed. People were upset at the lack of news and then others got upset when they heard the news too. It would be nice if people were able to be calm when things don't always go as expected. I'm personally glad we've been getting little teasers from jpresent and Salted, and it's nice to know that you guys have been hard at work. The CT honestly hasn't let me down with their stuff yet, all throughout my time playing this game.

 

Here's the thing:
The whole fact of the matter is that the owners or whoever was responsible decided to change their plans 8 months during the update. Not because they were having trouble on certain parts carrying out their plans (as far as we know), but because they just wanted to do something else entirely, even though we had no idea what they were doing in the first place. Which is something you never do as a game designer, especially when you don't tell anyone anything, because it shows that you planned the update out poorly, which is something you can control.

This is why it is at least the owners' fault. Unlike previous updates, this time wasn't because they had technical difficulties. They've never postponed an update because they just wanted to do something out of nowhere. Sure, it's technically wrong to also group the CT in it too, but A) No CT member has come out and said that they were against this decision B) Those that have spoken have defended the owner's decision and C) The some of the CT could have influenced the owners' decision. Which is why people grouped them with the CT.

It's not really about the lack of teasers or news. All what people are really mad about is that they aren't going through with their original plan that's been in the works for 8 months for seemingly no reason. And what really gets me is that I don't get why the CT or owners or whoever would think that we wouldn't enjoy what they had originally regardless. Grian even said in the thread to just enjoy whatever they throw out, so I don't know why Grian is disregarding his own advice. It's not like no one would play the game or appreciate the update if they released what they originally intended, especially since no one knew what it was. No one asked for Corkus, but people still liked it anyway.

So that's really my whole gripe about this situation. The owners seemed to have poorly planned the update, and the CT and owners evaded the specific arguments about switching plans by instead making it out to be that it's just that they didn't show anything.

 

I agree with the main post, the hate is really not needed as it brings the community as a whole down. The CT are doing their best. remember, they are a small team working on something massive! So some delays and postpones are bound to happen.
As it was stated by Crocoduck, it's okay to be upset and disappointed. Just don't take it out on the CT.

 

Honestly I couldn't agree more. Most people don't understand that RTD being postponed doesn't mean updates as a whole are postponed. He clearly said they're working on something else. I know you might've been excited about RTD, but if you actually cared, you would be excited about the update they're working on instead.

 

He never said when they started working on something else, and we definitely know that RTD has been in development much longer than that, so it's probably going to be at least another 8 months.

The thing is, if they decided to originally do what they're doing now, we would have been fine with it. We barely knew what was RtD anyway, so it's not like there's much of a difference.

Though the difference now is that we're going to have to wait an extra 8 months just for another update that could have gone after RtD. Which is why I think the owners are just shooting themselves in the foot. Most people would have been happy with what they had, and isn't that what Grian was talking about in his thread anyway? To be happy with what they bring to the table? I don't know why they think it's somehow not good enough given that we don't know anything about both projects.

 

The thing is, the thing that has replaced RTD for this update has been being worked on since the beginning of the work cycle for this update. While it's true that everyone thought RTD was the main focus of the update, the truth is this new thing has been the main part of the update the whole time. Just because RTD is now delayed doesn't mean they just suddenly decided to change the focus of the update out of nowhere. And if you think I know absolutely nothing about this, I was on the CT during the production cycle of this update.

 

You structured this post weirdly, OP.

On one hand, you are trying to deliver a serious message/request to the rest of the community.
On the other hand, you mix that "seriousness" with relatively large amount of unnecessary jokes, thus making it hard for you to be taken seriously.

Regarding your point.
I believe you are being too passive here. You are trying too hard to be super positive and not blame anyone.
If "CT" is responsible for updates, then yes, it's in fact their fault that the update is being delayed. Consequences require actions to occur, therefore,
someone is to blame for this. Reasons can be legit and understandable, but that only means reasons are justified, it doesn't remove the fault from the scenario.
Whose fault is it, what are the reasons for the delay, I don't know and I don't care. When you have certain responsibilities, you own up to them, you don't search
for excuses.

Regardless, I don't think throwing hate comments was the right thing to do. It's understandable, but it does no one good. When I was part of the CT, reading hate comments only wanted me to do less work and leave.

Finally, regarding Grian's last post in the locked thread. Whatever the outcome may be, regardless of the comments being good or bad, I feel like you at least owe that much to the community, to tell them what's going on. Being left in the dark is one of the main problems I had with the game. The whole "no man's sky disappointment" justification is old, stop clinging on to it so hard.

Honestly, when I see things like this, it only makes me happy knowing I made the right decision by leaving the game. I wonder how many more others will start to feel the same.

I do appreciate you telling me that, I just wish you told us all that earlier. Hell, if this means that the progress of the update hasn't changed much, why did Grian even make an announcement? We literally knew nothing. We couldn't have known the difference once the update drops. They could have just changed the name of the update if need be and say it was for another reason. Grian made it seem like they were starting from practically scratch.

 

Well, RTD is still not in this next update. It's not going to be there, and I think that's what Grian wanted to tell everybody with his thread.

It’s unfortunately impossible to please everyone. No matter what they do, someone will always be angry. Right now only a minimal amount of people are angry, so I would say they’re doing pretty well.

But anyways - people will always be angry. People want to be angry at something, to complain about something. If something doesn’t go as they want, people will always complain. Everyone does that, saying you don’t is lying. I am in no way claiming I’ve never complained about pointless things, I have. But we can all do our best not to.

 

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was postponed, not fully scrapped. I think Zombie just worded it really weirdly.

 

They put way too much work into RTD to just scrap it all together. It would be a waste of everyone's time to do that.
But I think the main message here, is that the hate that was thrown around is not and never will be needed.

 

Eh, I guess. I personally don't care if Dern isn't released. They never really promised anything with Dern anyway. There are plenty of other things that could be improved. I mean if Grian was feeling a little cheeky he could have just said after the update was released that Dern itself wasn't going to be released since it was only the Road to Dern ;)

Did you not read my post? At this point, it's mute, but it explains the reason why there was an outcry to begin with.
