Snail

hello ladies and gentleman, please sit down and enjoy yourself, today we are learning about various species of snails that i find cool and interesting.



the first species of snail i would like to talk about is a very cool, yet simple, snail called the Clusterwink. it's a sea snail that whenever aggravated, uses bio-luminescence to basically give the predator a seizure, warding them away from the clusterwink. now i think that's pretty cool!!



the next snail i would like to talk about is really interesting because when you typically think of a snail, you already have a good picture of how the shell will look. the Opisthostoma vermiculum, however, does not have a stereotypical shell. you can see how it's shell almost looks like plumbing in a sense, with it's winding and twisting spirals, it's surely a beauty to look at.



the last species of snail i would like to talk about today is commonly known as the candy cane snail. the reason i wanted to talk about this snail is because a lot of people think that snails are ugly creatures and i disagree. the colors on this shell are not painted on, it is completely natural. this is one of nature's most beautiful creations and i could not be more proud of it. rock on candy cane snail, you are really cool.

Hmm... I wonder what evolutionary pressure created those stripes?

 

Maybe used as a indicator for health?

 

My guess would be that it's to attract females to mate. It may not work for survival but if you have a short life and still have kids you're still spreading your genes.
This is the same strategy peacocks use.

 

I'm pretty sure snails are hermaphrodites.

I don't know much about snails I was just making a guess because that's what bright colours usually mean.

Could possibly be something that's used to attract other mates? Or maybe as a warning sign, like how bright colors = bad poison? Like monarch butterflies or coral snakes
