Any Class What Builds Do You Use Aphotic In?

The few people who use Aphotic should show us their builds!

Aphotic is absolute shit now because of a zero critical chance and almost no way to counter negative thunder defense, and with thunder being one of the worst elements to have negative defense in, so I’m guessing the answer is none

 

id agree that the -thunder defense does make is hard to use, but the -dex doesnt make it bad, and its a very good item for water/spell builds with a focus on mana steal

 

-56 dex (or higher) hurts a lot. it takes away the ability to patch up the -200 thunder defense (can't use BPA, Sine, etc).

The -tier attack speed that Aphotic gives makes it look like a sick Hybrid Helmet, but then you can't use Trench Scourer, Dark Channeler, and Sine, which I consider some of the better mana steal items.

By can't, I mean it'd just be very painful to.

It's still usable (probably), but I can't really think of any builds where it would work well.

and -200 thunder defense isnt even that bad for the insane boosts it gives

 

eh, 78% damage isn't that insane when you think about some things

you've already traded in your chestplate slot for anti-static, and you need 80 str for that so oof sp

you've traded in the ability to use items that need dex (dark channeler mostly) so damage boosts from other equipment probably won't be as high

not many sources of mana steal from pants/boots after knocking dex out, you can perhaps use capricorn/trench scourer but oof sp

lament (https://wynndata.tk/s/KX42zU) and sitis (too lazy) probably work decently with aphotic but other than that idk

 

lament is the best with aphotic

 

diamond hydro brace and ring exists, if used in a hive wand build you'll definitely have 6/4 or more mana steal, not to mention some mana regen from other armor pieces and hydro rings

lament is pretty good with aphotic but with sitis it's basically garbage. due to conversion turning neutral into thunder and aphotic's -thunder damage, a high amount of damage is nullified.

it's not all that bad to be honest

basically just hybrid aphotic hive wand, with 11k meteors
pretty good in my opinion

 

i suppose i can see that aphotic is good enough, i still don't like it though

 

In my opinion, Aphotic is good enough (ish), but no great. As a mage, I love playing dps, and I have put together two builds without a ton of effort to showcase Aphotic's weaknesses. With Aphotic's major dex drag, I'm able to outclass it in damage by simply using soul signal and whitecap together, leaving me with extra sp as well. Take a look below.

your aphotic build has more mana and a lot more defense and better stealing capabilities and only 1.2k less damage than earth/thunder sp whitecap soulsig, if anything its better lol

 

to be honest, it doesn't really matter if the aphotic build has more mana

6/4 regen and 13/4 steal is already way more than enough with over 114 int

 

tbh the aphotic is probably more practical, but I'm kinda a damage fanatic. I'm gonna find a way to clean up the defs. Also I could always just invest some point from strnegth into def. Actually, as a matter of fact, I think (lemme do some quick calculations) that with the WCC and SS build, I could invest some points from strength into def and still do more dps and have more def than the apho build. If that is the case though, I think the aphotic build could probably be improved by using different items.

Complete spell builds often work with it as it’s negative effects don’t really play a role in those builds
