    Information before you read:
I started playing D&D a while ago, and I wanted to write a story based on it. After a while trying to create a world I though hey, why not just do in in Wynn? So I wrote these and put them on my reddit u/xSSenn. I figure it'll get more attention here so I'll be posting on both. I haven't written a story like this before, I'm open to criticism, be honest if it's terrible. Anyways I hope you enjoy. :)

    Wynn
    Chapter 1

“Hey. Gen. Get up. It’s time to leave.” “Wh… what? What’s happening?” Gen says as he stumbles out of bed. “The king of Ragni is recruiting. Get your staff and let’s go.” Jeph says as he leaves the room. Confused, Gen picks up his staff, puts on his boots and tunic, and follows Jeph.

“So, what’s happening exactly?” Gen asks, Jeph replies “I didn’t get all the details, but apparently the Grand Mage Stojar says there are some weird things happening.” “Like what, the King’s stew wasn’t stirred properly?” “No, you need to take this seriously. We need to go.” Jeph and Gen leave the house and start walking towards Ragni, along with over a dozen others that supposedly got the same message.

On the way there Gen notices his staff is shaking. “What are you doing Gen?” Jeph asks. “I‘m not doing this, I can’t stop it!” Gen tries to get control of it, but he can’t, and a purple bolt of lightning fires out of it nearly hitting another group of recruits! “HEY! What do you think you’re doing?!” Angrily yells a recruit, as he points his sword towards Gen and Jeph. “I-I swear I didn’t mean to, see look at my staff!” Gen shows him his staff but nothing is happening. ”You stay out of my way or I’ll break that little ‘wizard stick’ of yours.” The recruit says as he rejoins his group.

Almost at Ragni, Gen is still trying to figure out what happened to his staff. He and Jeph fall behind the rest of the recruits a little bit. “AHH!” A voice yells nearby. Gen runs to see what happened, but Jeph wants to catch up with the rest of the group. “Gen I’m going on ahead, don’t take too long.” Jeph says. Gen finds the person pinned up against a wall by an undead creature! “Ok, you can do this, this is what you’ve been training for…” Gen says to himself as he approaches the creature. Gen tries to cast a basic flame attack, but his wand malfunctions again and shoots water at the creature. “Oh not again!” he says as he pulls out his dagger. The creature stumbles towards him, and Gen stabs it. Critical attack, right through the heart. “Wow, thank you so much for saving me!” The young boy says. “Hey it’s no problem,” Gen says, “You wouldn’t have heard anything about the King recruiting people would you?” “No… although I did hear something about magic acting strange all over Wynn,” says the boy. “Really? Well at least I know it’s not just my staff.” Gen says relieved, but he then realises that he is far behind Jeph and the other recruits. “I gotta run, go home okay?” Gen says as he runs off to try to catch up with Jeph.

Gen arrives at the Ragni west gate. “Recruit! What are you doing? The rest of the recruits are already inside talking to the king!” Says a guard. “I’m sorry there was this kid and some kind of creature and my staff didn’t wo-” Gen gets cut off “I don’t care. Go inside.” says the guard. “Recruits. Do you understand everything I’ve told you?” the king says. The recruits then leave the castle. Gen arrives and everyone is gone. “A mage? I wasn’t told of any mage recruits.” the king says. “Um, sorry I’m late your majesty.” Gen anxiously says, still having no idea why he is there. “So, a mage, how has your staff been treating you?” the king asks. “It’s been acting weird, shaking, firing lightning and casting the wrong spell,” Gen anxiously says. “Yes, that sounds about right. Stojar senses a great dark force, although he can not identify where it is coming from. You should go talk to him, he should be in the Nivla Woods, just east of here.” The king gives Gen a map and shows him where Stojar is, he believes Stojar can repair his staff. “Okay, so is the dark force the reason why your recruiting so many people? What can they do about it?” Gen asks, “They, and you, can help the people. There are going to need help, terrible things are to come.” The king says, “Now go, find Stojar, there aren’t many mages anymore, and you could be of great use to him.”

    Chapter 2

Gen exits the castle and enters the beautiful city of Ragni. He starts walking towards the gate where the rest of the recruits are. On the way, he notices a shop selling a magical dagger, which can teleport the user short distances. “Hey, how much for this dagger?” Gen asks the shopkeeper, “This here’s a one-of-a-kind, it’s gonna run you… nine hundred and sixty emeralds.” Gen looks in his bag and finds 13 emeralds and says “O-oh… yeah… I’ll have to think about it.” Gen tries to forget about the dagger and continues towards the group where he meets up with Jeph again. “Where’ve you been Gen?” Jeph asks, “I got caught up with an undead creature, and then I personally talked to the king. He told me I need to go find Stojar in the Nivla Woods, he can help me repair my wand, and explain to me what this dark magic is. He also said that I could be of ‘great use’ to Stojar!” Gen says, he clearly thinks very highly of himself at this moment. “Sounds interesting, anyways, let’s g-” Jeph is interrupted by a loud boom in the sky. “What was that?” Somebody asks. “Look! The sky is turning purple!” Another recruit yells.

The sky is flooded with a purple fog, and out of it comes a dark figure. He floats above the ground for a few seconds, until a group of recruits tries to attack, “CHAAARGE!!” They say as 8 armed men, 2 with battle axes, 4 with longswords and 2 with crossbows. The dark figure screeches, summoning a swarm of undead creatures. The recruits get a few good hits in but there are too many of them, they try to fall back until the dark figure swoops in front of them, and effortlessly slays them. “Jeph, we need to do somethi-” Gen tries to say but Jeph already starts running into battle with the rest of the recruits and the Ragni guards. Gen tries yet again to cast a fire spell, but before he can the dark figure teleports right in front of him and attacks. Gen screams and shuts his eyes. *slash* The figure attacks and then vanishes.

“Wh…. what… I… I’m ali-” Gen gasps as he looks down and sees Jeph on the ground. “No… no no no, Jeph please… please, please no…” Gen screams and from his wand comes a huge blast of lightning, killing the rest of the undead instantly.

    --The next day--

“He shouldn’t have saved me,” Gen says to Okir, another recruit, he responds saying “He died a hero, that’s all he ever wanted.” Okir was good friends with Jeph growing up. “He was like a brother to me” Gen sobs. Two guards approach Gen, “You’re Gen, correct?” “Yeah that’s me,” He replies. “Stojar needs to see you, he heard what you did yesterday.” Confused Gen asks “What? What did I do?” “You’ll need to talk to Stojar about that, we’re just here to escort you to him.”

The guards and Gen start making the 6 hour walk to the Nivla Woods. Gen notices some townsfolk giving him weird looks, one of them approaches and calls him a freak. “Here, take this hood,” a guard says as he hands Gen a dark brown hood. “The common folk still hold a grudge against magic users, even 30 years after the rebel mages attacked Ragni and Detlas.” Says one guard. “They need to get over it, that was just a small group, no matter how much damage they caused,” the other guard adds.

Finally, they arrive at Stojar’s tower in the Nivla Woods. “We’ll wait out here, you go inside.” The guards send Gen inside. Inside the tower is a mage’s dream. On the walls there are many different types of staffs, bookshelves full of spells and curses, potions brewing on the table in the middle. “Ah! You’ve finally arrived, Gen.” Stojar says calmly. “I’ve been hearing about you, it’s not often a mage comes out of the shadows, especially not with a lightning spell.” “I honestly have no idea how I did that, I barely remember it anyways, my friend had just died when it happened,” Gen says sadly, still broken from yesterday. Stojar puts his hand on Gen’s shoulder and says “I’m very sorry to hear about your friend.” “Th… thank you…” Stojar turns around and starts walking up the stairs. “There are terrible things coming, worse than the dark banshee that took your friend, so please, come with me, you have great potential, but you need guidance.”
