I’ve noticed that in certain areas in the canyon of the lost, specifically near the Colossus Statue, there are certain caves that have a chamber with many mobs in it and what appears to be a smaller room that has what appears to be a pedestal or an altar. These caves appear to have a color theme, and all of their walls are light crystals.

Here are the two I’ve found so far:

A large, blue-crystal atrium filled with neutral Shimmerstalks and hostile Shimmerwing Moths. A small underground pathway leads to the altar room.

A long, yellow-crystal cave has hostile “Voltaic” enemies. The cave is long and winding, and an altar is found at the very end.

I’m guessing that each cave represents a specific element, and that something can be done at each “altar” with specific items.

Has anyone seen these caves before, found additional caves, or know their purposes? Could these caves possibly have ties to the grand Colossal Statue? Any info on these caves would be helpful. Hopefully we can find out the meaning of these caves, and possibly solve a new Gavel mystery discovery.

Edit: While these caves are now confirmed to not have any use other than for grinding, it has been confirmed that there is one for each element. The new main goal of this thread will be to find and document each of the elemental caves.

(I’ll add pictures once I have the time.)

These used to be the COTL's elemental dungeons. I believe they were removed because it was possible for players to get stuck in them since they were never finished. As far as I know there's nothing to them at the moment.

Well, they used to be the weird unfinished terribly-designed element minidungeons, but for now they're just grind spots, one for each element. I added a thunder one and moved the air one to someplace more noticeable; there's one for each element.

Alright, thanks for the info. I guess the main goal of this will be finding the locations of all of them, then.

I believe you meant to say that the water one is on the thread. The air cave shouldn’t be a problem, as it’s the only one whose location is on the wiki.

They're pretty much all on the same path, really. From the fire cave, go towards the underpass leading to Bantisu and you'll pass both the air cave(across the river near the floating house) and the water cave(up the stone stairwell near the underpass). When you get to the fork in the road leading to Bantisu, take the left-most path with the Werecats. Follow it until you can take the U-turn and go up the slope, and you'll pass the thunder cave. Take the bridge and keep going straight through the path, and you'll find yourself passing through some pine trees and Rock Entities, and the earth cave is there.

It's a shame the water one got removed. I really liked how the final boss's name, Belua the Unquenchable, was related to the Acolytes of Belua in the Tower of Ascension :/

That was like...the singular semi-interesting thing about it. The cave itself looked terrible, it was horribly designed, there was no reward, and you couldn't leave once you got the the end...

It didn't feel that poorly designed to me and I honestly didn't care about the lack of reward. It was just interesting.

Go through maze tunnels with extremely, unnecessarily-well-hidden entrances that punish you with fall damage and hordes of high-damage enemies that are aggroed into you always because of high vision that lets them see you through the floors if you pick the wrong one, walk all the way back and take more fall damage to try again, TWICE, then fight some more high-damage fast moving mobs in hallways where it's literally impossible to dodge them, then do a ridiculously tall water parkour while ranged mobs peg you unavoidably from below that has no way save for spells to get you out of the pool of water if you fail and fall, then take another long tumble, fight a burst-ranged boss with 15% health regen and heavy heal spell in a room smaller than 10 blocks wide, and then /kill because you can't leave.
