Let's end the 5th season of Featured Wynncraftian with a developer who has had +500 supporters on his nomination thread, @jpresent! Let's start with the basic question, do you remember how you discovered Wynncraft and started working here?

I discovered Wynncraft back in May 2015. Some of my co-workers pointed it to me and we played together for a while. Wynncraft surprised me with its creativity and kept me entertained in the little spare time I had. I ran around for a week with a tiara helmet skin. It was amazing. After a bit less than a year, I decided to apply to become a Wynncraft developer and was accepted.

When did you start coding and what was your first interaction with coding?

7 years ago I really liked to play some games, I played Runescape a lot and I decided that I wanted to learn how to code games myself. So I started learning coding languages and tried to teach myself the visual basic. Which turned out to be kind of impossible because Visual Basic is kind of the boringest language you can code a game in, so that didn't go so well. Though it did teach me the basics. So that's kind of how I started out.

When did you decide to code for servers and why did you choose Minecraft?

A friend of mine introduced me into Minecraft, I always wanted to play Minecraft but I didn't have any money of my own so I ended up pirating it. I wanted really badly to play Minecraft with my friends so I didn't buy it initially. Now, I did that for a few years... I got into ModLoader (Later changed into Forge) and one thing led to another, I got decent at coding and eventually ended up working on Hypixel.

So it's been a long journey for you. What's your coding advice to people who just started coding?

Start out with an actual tutorial for the language written by the makers of the language. For example, if you want to start learning how to code in Java, for Minecraft: Java Edition. Start with the Oracle tutorial with how to code in Java. Don't start with the games right away because it will be too overwhelming to begin with and you are going to make a lot of mistakes.

Let's talk more about Wynncraft now! You have added many features, which are you most proud of?

I'm kind of proud of everything altogether. I don't think there's a favorite thing that I've done.

You usually interact with the community to find bugs and design new features. Do you think the community influences your job as a developer?

Definitely, I try to hang around the community. All different levels and different guilds to see how everybody responds to everything. I started looking to the early game and I started to make improvements to things that were just simply frustrating. Things like quest book, it was glitchy and you had to go through pages to actually know what you were supposed to do in a quest so I ended up making the GUI for the simplify the game. I always try to restart the game every so often or just simply try to find what people think is the most frustrating thing in the game so I can fix it.

Over the last few months you have fixed several bugs on Wynncraft and completely remade guilds. That is impressive, can you tell us any of your future plans or coming soon bug fixes?

One thing, Minecraft 1.13 is coming up, I'm already preparing it to get it ready for an update so we are ready to completely internally support 1.13 and a lot of it's features. I'm working on a major guild update, although I'm not allowed to give any details on that and a very major game update, which I'm also not allowed to give you details on. Coming soon for bug fixes, I fixed boats, completely. They are now extremely smoother. It's going to release with the 1.13 update.

Ok, so we'll keep those a secret ;D - Some months ago we had the potato hunt that revealed guild banners. Who had that idea and why potatoes?

Because potatoes are amazing. It was my idea. Potatoes are the best thing to ever happen to the world.
