Lately, I've been thinking about the major, agreed-upon assumption that Siegfried, legendary hero of Gavel, might be a fraud. Anyone who has read or watched the Harry Potter series (specifically The Chamber of Secrets) would already know what's gonna happen: We find Siegfried and we discover that he's a fraud blah blah blah. It's not a good plot twist, with the dialogue from different people ruining the buildup.

Does it really ruin it, though?

Most of you may know that there is an NPC in Corkus City who reveals that Siegfried is a human from Corkus, where the humans practice electromagic. What if Siegfried practiced that as well? We don't know the full potential electromagic has, especially in terms of combat capabilities. Siegfried's fight with the trolls may have involved electromagic. His fight with the dragon could've used that to block the fireballs.

Now, you may be asking "But if Siegfried is using electromagic to become Gavel's hero, why wouldn't he talk about it if it's not in those books about his deeds?" The only possible answer I could think of is that Siegfried is secretive about his electromagic, only using it in subtle ways. I don't think anyone in Gavel knows about this kind of magic, so maybe Siegfried didn't want his people's magic to fall into the wrong hands.

This revelation would be revealed in a future storyline involving Siegfried, where we assume he's a total fraud because of the peoples' dialogue, and then BOOM, it's revealed he's not a fraud and was using electromagic. This is the Content Team's attempt at subverting our expectations. This is a good plot twist.

What do you think about this theory? Does it make sense to you?

Better to have that than the "Liar Reveal" trope that has been used a million times in other forms of media.

Eh, from all the signs we have so far I think it's safe it say that he's a fraud. Maybe he is powerful and does have electromagic, just that he didn't actually do anything heroic. In a story, you don't place these kinds of signs in it just to completely disregard because it's a trope. It isn't good storytelling, and by thinking that it's kinda self-defeating because you then again know what to expect. So, idk...

I mean, not bad. There’s not a lot of evidence for this, but at the same time there is nothing directly saying he’s a fraud either. This is an interesting theory to keep in mind.

siegfried needs no evidence to be proven legit, because siegfried is, and is always, the greatest hero both in reality and in our hearts.

I honestly think sigfreid is just an adventurer from corkus that was searching for something in gavel. It was gavel's tourist industry that blew some of the things out of proportion so they could sell overpriced wood swords. It's kind of like dern at the moment, We know nothing but whispers and rumors about the truth.

A better (in my opinion) plot twist and my personal Siegfried theory - Siegfried is dead.

My initial idea (before Corkus was released) was that Siegfried is actually completely made up, but it seems he's real. What if Siegfried was a genuine, if a lot less overpowered hero, who arrived in Gavel, did a little heroing, became semi well-known and then died. The villagers who find his body conspire to cover it up, write a few books 'by' him, set up merchandise and start a lot of rumors. They make a load of money from people who idolise him.

Crucially, nobody in Gavel even claims to have actually seen Siegfried in person, or even know what he looks like (the heads on the figurines are missing). If he really was a fraud or a real hero, surely public appearances would be beneficial - he could act the hero, tell stories himself, build up hype around him, and then go off to do more hero stuff.

This is actually an interesting idea, using the idea of a hero to earn money. It fits right in with the villagers' supposed greed as well, who wouldn't want to earn LE by selling fake autographs?

My headcanon about Siegfried is that all of his merchandise, books etc. were not actually authorized by himself, but instead were produced and released by a group of (greedy) villagers trying to make money using his name. I want to believe that Siegfried is an actual hero, but I know I'm probably gonna be wrong

The way Siegfried is seen by the people of Gavel is similar to a lot of famous people in the modern world.

So, I think that he does actually do good deeds, but he greatly over exaggerates it in his books, to the point that it’s hardly realistic. For example, he makes a dragon retreat, but says he killed it in some really crazy way.

Also, is anyone else confused as to why the word ‘Siegfried’ is in bright blue in the Corkus Guard’s dialogue? That usually represents key words for quests or discoveries.
