Where I live (North district of Israel) school shootings are never heard of. And I (At least from personal experience) never heard of a school shooting happening in my country.

As I another thread about transparent bags to increase safety in the school and how it's a stupid idea I started to wonder what is the motive behind school shootings? I thought and it doesn't really make sense that a kid would want to kill other students, I don't see a clear motive behind it. So i came to ask for your explanations...

What is the motive behind school shootings?

The real reason why it happens is bad parenting, in both ways, both the school shooter, and the victimes

It’s mostly just parental abuse, bullying, and mental illness. There’s really nothing that can be done to absolutely prevent school violence. Sure, having school districts be well off and have good teachers are certainly factors, but a lot of the more publicized school shootings are due to lone wolves. Given that Israel has a homogeneous population of 8.7 million, strict gun laws, mandatory army service, and militarized zones, while the U.S. has a more diverse population of 325 million, patchwork gun laws, and no required military service, it’s not a surprise that Israel has less gun violence in schools (Yes, I know that there are also Palestinians, but that’s a topic for another thread).

School shootings comes down to a couple of reasons.

Bullying is most obvious one, but it also has to do with parental negligence and/or laws.

    Thought these might be interesting:
    https://www.k12academics.com/school-shootings/history-school-shootings-united-states
This one follows school shootings since colonial America. Most of the early ones are done either because the teacher wipped the kid or a teacher got rejected by another teacher. Surprisingly, there was a significant drop in school homicides betwen 2000 and 2010.

This one is a bit more serious and brings up a point that isn’t mentioned often. At first I didn’t really have a problem with how the media reported shootings, but as I looked into it, the more I realized the problem. The media has a self-acknowledged responsibility to report suicides in a respectful way in order to not promote copy-cats. You might say the same thing should be done now for mass shootings.
