On August 11, 2018, Gavel will have been out for just as long as it took between Wynncraft’s release and the Gavel update (965 days).

    Discuss.

I’m glad for the updates we got, but in retrospect, they should have first revamped Wynn with the main storyline and the new features from 1.9 and up. Then once they got the storyline mostly sorted out and knew where they wanted to take it, they should have released Gavel and raised the level cap. That way the story would have been way more coherent, they could have worked with more mechanics in Minecraft, and they wouldn't have to worry about the endgame content. I know they technically did that with the 1.12 update, but that didn't focus as much on the game mechanics and the existing quest content as with the Gameplay update.

I know that the main purpose of Gavel was to fill the lack of content between lvl 40 and up, but by not having a structure to the quests, the content was disorganized and all over the place, with some level ranges having too little content and some having way too much. When Gavel was released, there were 21 quests between levels 70 and 79, 17 of which were one of the 50 new quests added. Wouldn't it make sense to shift some of the work from the lvl 70 range to the endgame or to the Gavel dungeons? While the issue of endgame content isn't as bad as it was before, it still makes the problem of trying to make the game coherent and add an overall story even harder for the CT because they have to revamp and/or remove existing content.

I'm not Grian and I've never been in the CT, so I have no idea what they wanted to do with Gavel in the beginning. And it's their game, so if they wanted to shelve the story and focus on gameplay, or visa-versus, that's fine. But the structure of the quests, the uneven amount of content, and the fact that they showed the main storyline in the trailer without ever mentioning it before out of nowhere suggests that they weren't planning an overall storyline until half of Gavel was already done and they ran out of time to finish the endgame content.

I'm hoping Dern will fix that. Dern is the big dark bad place. All of it has to be storyline, not just incoherent quests that are completely unrelated to any part of the storyline like quests where you just go around helping people. I really want a more organized story. It really is all over the place right now with no main goal. I want an amazing adventure where you travel to every province with a clear goal where the current quests are just side story. But I feel like when the when the storyline comes, there will be too many quests and some will have to be removed to make room. They've put themselves in a weird place and there's no easy way to fix it

Exactly. Maybe they will just remove a few like Eye of the Storm and just nerf the xp given by each quest. But if they nerf the xp reward that much, the quests aren't worth doing then besides maybe for a few items and emeralds. So idk, we have no idea what's coming this update besides Dern and a few revamped Gavel quests. Maybe we don't even go to Dern since the update is just called, "The Road to Dern" and we will have to wait until the next update to fight the boss of Dern or something...

I feel like if they didn't release Gavel before the main storyline or anything else, the community would have gone berserk. Besides, we had been waiting for Gavel longer than the storyline and we would all be pissed if the provence got delayed another few seasons. We all needed a lot more content, and that's what Gavel gave us.

For a bit, at least until we realized there was almost nothing to do past level 90.

Looking back, I feel like the community is looking more towards quality > quantity. A lot more people seem like they would be happier with better quality of life changes or a cool story rather than just plain more content nowadays.

We still would’ve gotten new content, just that they wouldn’t tease Gavel until after the storyline was out, therefore not building up any hype. The storyline could have easily added enough content from level 40 to 75 without extending the level range. That way the CT wouldn’t have to add content for another 25 levels, which Gavel showed they weren’t prepared to do anyway.
