I've done this quest a few times in the past, and was beginning to wonder: what is the purpose of being able to trade the Slime Scooper quest item for an amulet if you need to give it to the questgiver in the end anyway? I know of a way around it to be able to get it, but what is the purpose of it in the first place?

Before 1.17, Eluzterp wouldn't take the scooper from you. This is for those people.

The slime scooper was planned to be used in a future quest, but never was. This left a large amoung of people stuck with a quest item which couldn't be removed from the inventory without glitch abuse. To fix this, the item had to be tradable into something which could be thrown away, but not sold forwards and exploited for infinite money via /fixquests. Hence, an untradable amulet was created.

Ah I understand now While I never had any spare scoopers, I do know of a way to acquire one if I wanted one bad enough: Start a character and play it until I get the slime scooper, transfer it to a character that has completed it before, then trade it for the amulet and keep it. That's IF I really want it that bad though. At least now I know what that amulet is for, thanks for the info.
